Nice work Barry and in oils too.

Thanks Stephen I enjoy a change every now and again.

Very nice Barry, don’t think I’ve seen an oil with your name on it before. Has a lovely impressionistic look to it.

You should make dabbling with oils a less rare occurrence Barry, a lovely scene painted beautifully.

It's great - an oil that looks like a watercolour!

Thank you Brian and Fiona, Brian I have posted a few oils but a lot of my efforts have been Seago copies that I haven’t posted. I do intend to do a few more Fiona so watch this space.

Thank you Maureen, as I have been painting in watercolour for so long it is probably influencing my oils.

Very good indeed Barry.

Lovely harbour scene Barry, which I assume is eventide. Nice work.

Thank you Sandra and Jim, correct Jim.

I love the backlit boat and highlights on the water. Beautifully atmospheric

I like your oil work immensely Barry, I suppose it is my first choice unless I'm out and about doing some quick sketches and then it has to be watercolour. Spritsail barges are my all time favourite to paint, they are so powerful yet elegant, this is a beauty.

Thank you Diana, after a day of looking at the painting I might do a bit more with the water.

Thank you Alan, your comments are very encouraging as I admire your oil paintings. I did plan to do a few more during the winter but I was restricted by a series of chest infections. I used a picture I took several years ago at Pin Mill Suffolk as my reference, the Barge is not as accurate as it could be but I am reasonably happy.

A beauty Barry so much talent

A lovely warm Summer scene Barry.

Thank you Dennis, Carole and Satu you comments encourage me so much.

Beautiful impressionistic painting, calm, serene and intriguing. That ship has me wondering. Brian

Thank you Brian interesting that you find it intriguing.

Super oil painting Barry and love the way detail is kept to a minimum

Thanks Dermot, I’m not very good at detail so I have to keep it to a minimum.

Oil on Canvas board. A rare excursion into oils, I started with a base of acrylic and completed the painting using water mixable oils. This was done in one session but I will probably revisit it i a couple of weeks after it has dried slightly and I have had time to consider any possible changes.

About the Artist
Barry Hulme

I started painting in 2004, I am influenced by Wesson, Seago and many of the great masters, more recently I enjoy the work of Steve Hall, John Hoar and Alvaro Castignet to name but a few. I paint in a loose style and try to simplify as I can. The medium I enjoy most is watercolour but dabble with…
