This is a beauty Barry, love the way you have painted the foliage, with a mixture of soft and hard edges. A simple but good composition, with the winding path taking us through the open gate, past our familiar friends and on into the distance. Super work.

Lovely painting as always, colours and shadows are beautiful 😃

Thank you Stephen, I think over the years I have developed my ability to take photos that make good paintings.

Thank you Linda, getting the shadows to work is often difficult but so important.

Great as usual, Barry. Looking at the painting I get the impression that you paint the shadows last...is that right? (I don't do many landscapes, but I've tended to get the darks in first. As I do in my other pictures. Maybe it doesn't suit landscape?)

Thank you Lewis, your correct as this is watercolour and the accepted wisdom is to paint from light to dark. However, if I was using acrylic or oil I would establish the darks first and use opaque paint to create the light. I do know some watercolour painters who do put their darks in early which would suggest there is no right or wrong way my motto is “go with what works for you”

A superb piece, Barry. Love the rendering of light and the fabulously loose washes.

A beautiful idyllic scene which you have done perfectly, Barry. Love the purple/greens of the foliage.

Beautiful, Barry. A peaceful painting I can look at for a long time.

Love this Barry and I particularly love the area of dark trees and building it glows fantastic mate

Just perfect.

Wow again Barry always high quality and this absolutely stunning

That is exactly what we need at the moment, peace and quiet with warm sunshine on our shoulders. Beautiful serene little landscape Barry.

Thank you Seok, Ellen, Shirley, Dennis, John and Ibolya for your lovely comments.

Too kind Dennis, I love being at Dedham and it possibly shows in the painting.

Thank you Satu I will be glad when I can get out and paint Plein Air and not from photos.

This is great Barry - the foliage has worked so well and your figure going into the light - lovely watercolour

Thank you Maureen and Jolanta your comments are appreciated.

Beautifully balanced composition Barry, gorgeous.

Thank you Margaret and Fiona.

Really love the blur greens Barry, a beautiful painting.

Lovely Barry. Just right.

Beautifully painted Barry, now will look forward to other paintings from your photos.

Many thanks Carole, Jim and Sandra.

Walking in the footsteps of Constable then Barry... Nice piece as always and a deserved top gallery spot. I've been away for 6 weeks to my place in Spain so haven't been contributing, then came down ill on my return which was probably the change in temperature. Posted my first oil the other day which also made the top spot so looking forward to getting stuck in again. Keep up the good work, always a pleasure to see quality stuff on here.

Thank you Alan, I must admit I do enjoy painting in Constable county. I suffer with chest infections in the winter and they are very debilitating and hope you are now fully recovered and look forward to seeing more of your delightful oils.

Wow really nice one. Congratulations Barry for its selection to the top of the Gallery page!!!

Thank you very much Bonny it’s great to get onto the top gallery.

I have a large stock of photos that I have taken over the years and I have recently been going through them looking for painting projects. This was taken on one of my early morning walks during a stay at Dedham Hall. I tried to keep it loose and painted much of it wet into wet, the figures and dog was added to provide focus and interest.
