The Thames with City Skyline – Monochrome Challenge.

Great Alan, fantastic drawing and technique.

Ah Alan. Perfect use of the medium. Nice work.

Love your choice of medium and great technique as usual. Terrific.

Lovely tonal work Alan.

This is very strong Alan - you have got the balance just right. Strong and confident.

Love those shadowy silhouettes in the distance Alan. A very recognisable and stylish image.

Wonderful monochrome, Alan.

Brilliant Alan, great skill, I love how you've painted the distant skyline

Lovely comments, glad you liked it, thank you.

Wish I cold do this sort of stuff! Brilliant!

My second attempt at the challenge. Black acrylic ink and diluted to make two shades of grey, plus a splash of white gouache. A4 Grey paper which gave me a third tonal grey (always useful!). From my own photo, taken during my recent visit to the RA. So much inspiration for an artist around the Thames, you just never get bored! Great challenge this, will be doing a third one shortly, London Bridge will feature in that one. I often take photographs as a back-up, but I also managed a few dozen sketches on my long weekend trip, great for inspiration and to work from back in the studio.
