Beautiful depth of colours with always knowledge and understanding another beauty

Lovely Alan, great atmosphere and harmonious colours, and the patches of white smoke and touches of red add a real zing to it.

Stunning!

Well done with the Pip Seymour development Alan I think David is looking

Another wonderful painting, alan, and the usual skill with colours and shapes.

Very dramatic and powerful. I did experiment with the Bockinford tinted papers for a while, when they came out but found the results a bit dark for me.

To caprure this on a difficult paper is admirable Alan. Eyecatcher too.

Eyecatcher indeed! Marvellous atmosphere and who would believe that you are using watercolours, Alan. They are singing!

Atmospheric and vivid. How do you get those amazing colours with water colour?

Love the strong reflections, the smoke and the sky are marvellous, great work Alan.

Great abstract shapes and dramatic colour combine to make a really impressive image. Fantastic.

You did well Alan, love the white really stands out against the darks adding so much drama.

Just beautiful Alan...your paintings glow , and what an imaginative mind you have, to construct this complex composition! Fab!!

Thank you to everyone who took the time to comment, I do appreciate it.

I wasn't too sure about this 'Nocturne' paper, but have just done another quickie with it which I will post later, I have got 12 sheets to use up and it's damned expensive stuff, so I will persevere.

Sylvia, the colours just tend to sit on top of the paper, which has been dampened, although you have to be very bold and over compensate, as they do dry very light and you can be left with a ghostly image only.

Turner used the equivalent to this paper during his 1840 tour of Italy, but with better results for sure...

Wonderful richness and super highlights Alan. The paint acts very differently on this paper by the look of it, looks tricky but I'm sure you master it!

Thank you Fiona, you have more confidence than I have...

Wow Alan - this lovely pice really stood out on the galley page. I think you have handled the challenge of the new paper brilliantly - the result speaks for itself.

Beautiful piece Alan , what glorious colours

Thanks for the confidence booster Julie and Dermot.

Wow - those glorious colours - you always manage to create such drama in your wonderful paintings Alan

Fabulous blend of hues, stunningly atmospheric and filled with dramatic flourishes and movement. One of your finest works, Alan!

Watercolour on hand-made Turner Nocturne paper, 11 x 15''. I thought that I would give this paper a try, it's a darkish brown and I must say that the colour creates many challenges. Just an imaginary scene painted with my usual rapid approach, but I need more practice with it.
