If I view this piece at a distance from the screen, you have to get really back. The image look really good. Lots of good greys and high lights of colour. Alan

I like the painting very much but like Heather, not so keen on the surface especially when blown up. Maybe it would grow on me, at least different!

Love the lack of detail and how you manage to achieve such a comprehensive painting with this loose, style. So very effective Alan.

A question Alan. Did you feel frustrated with the surface? I did, when I used something similar. Perhaps a palette ( or painting) knife and laying parts of it on thickly….

Marjorie, it served its purpose for a small loose sketch, but I haven’t used much of it since! Good if you like dry brush work I suppose…

This is exceptional Alan - the composition and touches of colour are first class and the smoke adds another dimension.

Unusual surface and so effective.

I think this is superb Alan. It caught my eye immediately. The colours, the brushmarks and the composition. The surface is interesting!

I really like this Alan, it works well especially the palette and looseness of the subject.……not keen on the surface though….not in close up. There’s a kind of distortion of the image.

A bold piece, Alan. The composition is superb with the ship dominating on a third and everything else fading to vagueness away from it.
