This brings back memories of being a student. It also makes you think it's a pity that Monet never visited Durham.

This is superb Alan and beautiful painted .

Really good Alan 🙂

Beautiful, Alan. Nice to see a different version of this view. As a resident I find it fresh and inspiring.

Wow this is a little stunner 😍

Lovely scene Alan and I like your approach with the water.

Thanks guys, appreciated - looking forward to giving this one another go, but slightly different style!

Can’t imagine why this didn’t make selection for the comp Alan! I love your colours here.

Very impressive, Alan.

This is indeed a lovely painting, love the greys and pinks.

Lovely Alan, sorry it didn't make the cut for TALP

I very much like your soft pastel colours here, and the contrast with the dark branches in the foreground.

Lovely painting Alan - (I have a watercolour print of this almost identical scene of Elvet Bridge with the Cathedrawl and Castle in the background hanging on my wall from when my daughter went to Durham University - a beautiful city)

Gorgeous colours, Alan! They really give a sparkle on a misty day. It would have made my cut!

Sublime Alan. Love it!

Its a lovely painting Alan, has a Japanese feel somehow!

A most wonderful impressionistic painting Alan, gorgeous soft palette which shimmers. It’s a winner in my view.

Love this Alan, the colour is superb, beautiful greys with dashes of colour - one of my favourites so far.

A lovely and very interesting impression, Alan.

Great depth Alan with fabulous tone and colour leading the eye from foreground to the distance.

Very nice indeed Alan. I love all the colours you’ve incorporated into this yet it still has a very subtle effect. Especially interesting to me as it is one of the landmarks of the North East. Commiserations re TALP, I’m disappointed not to get the chance to see this when I visit Patchings.

Beautifully painted and love the soft colours.

Love the economy of detail, while the painting demonstrates so much interest Alan. Such a beautiful painting that grabs the viewer’s attention.

I lived in the North East for seven years and often walked the river at Durham. This brings back great memories and is a lovely painting. Immediately brings to mind Monet and his London paintings

Thanks for all your encouragement guys…

Beautiful Alan; I love the colours, especially the reflections of the buildings, a lovely composition.

I love those smoky blues with the soft pinks Alan. I look forward to seeing the second version! It’s a really interesting subject.

Such depth in this Alan, the faded backdrop is done really well.

Love this Alan. Thanks a lot for liking my latest .

Oil on Belle Arti canvas board 40 x 50cm. My impression of the scene worked up in the studio from my own reference sketchbooks and photos. My entry to this years TALP competition which didn’t make the cut! The composition itself has potential, so I’m going to give it another shot at some stage, but I’ll approach it differently!
