Beached Trawler at Hastings

It's a beauty Alan, I like it a lot

I like the way you give such importance to the sky Alan, and there is still room for plenty of interest in the actual landscape. Look forward to your next article.

Superb painting Alan , so many interesting things at Hastings I find keeping focus on one scene difficult.

When I first saw this image, I thought the sky looked very Seagoish. Lots of interest below of course, the colourful sails really catch the eye.

A lovely painting, like it a lot.

I can just see that warm glow peeping through which brings everything together - lovely sky, great pop of red/ orange on the sail.

Love the sky colours, Alan. (Enjoyed, by the way, your latest article on pen and wash in TA - it’s one of my favourite styles - not that I do much of it, but enjoy seeing others’ work.)

Very pleasing painting Alan. I like the composition, and the marks you have made and the tonal range you have created add lots of interest to the work.

Nicely painted surroundings by the boat Alan.

What a beautiful painting,Alan! That sky is quite superb and shows off the remainder of the painting so well!

This is an impressive oil painting Alan. The sky is wonderful.

Beautiful love that sky!! Happy New year 🎉

Love this, Alan. It's beautiful.

Such a beauty Alan - superb brush strokes - give the painting so much energy.

Super painting Alan

Beautifully done Alan a lovely painting from my birth place Hastings.

Such a confident and skilful use of colour and brushwork Alan. Sky is the star for me, the underlying texture of the ground and brush marks especially…..like the touch of green in there too. Looking forward to having a go along with your feature.

Lovely painting.

I like it, Alan. Seago is one of my favourite artists. I look forward to reading your article.

I so admire how you minimise detail but leave enough information to rouse interest in your painting Alan. Your sky is so alive.

What is not to like!

Love the sky with those bold brush strokes.

Fabulous use of subtle tones and colour make this an excellent painting Alan.

Amazing, Alan. I like the tones, values, colours... the hole composition.

An absolutely stunning piece, Alan, with so much immediacy, atmosphere and excellent, excellent brushwork. Beautifully done!

Worked up from my sketchbook drawings from my many visits to Hastings. This is a 4-stage WIP for a feature I’ve written on Edward Seago’s techniques and working practice in The Artist, May edition - which I hope will inspire a few readers to have a go! Oil on Belle Arti canvas board 40x50cm.
