Thank you very much, Margaret. Steam engines had a character and personality that seem to be missing in modern locomotives - maybe it's mostly romanticism on my part!

While not a train spotter, trains nevertheless are fascinating. As a youngster before the advent of diesel I still remember trains powered by steam engines thundering by not far from my grandparent’s farm. This painting of a Canadian Pacific freight train making its way through a mountain pass in the heart of winter stirs something of that early fascination and wonder.
