You've captured the atmosphere so well Wib - great painting.

You have caught that snowy atmosphere so well . The warm colours of the fox and the grasses make this an eye catcher Wib.

This is so beautiful Wib, love the fox and the snow looks so cold and exciting :)

Thank you Michael, Sarah and Maria. I do appreciate your observations.

Beautiful Wib. The light and atmospheric effect is super.

Is this striking piece digital Wib?

Incredibly 3 dimensional Wib

Thank you very much Fiona, Derek, Helen and Lynne - I do appreciate your encouraging comments.

Yes, Derek, this is a digital painting. My workflow is pretty much the same as you would do for a painting using a traditional medium. I use Corel’s Painter which does a marvelous job at emulating traditional mediums – oil, acrylic, watercolour, pastel, chalk, etc. I begin with a blank canvas and start blocking out my composition using 8 – 10 different brushes all with their own characteristics. I then build detail in layers until I reach a point where I’m reasonably happy with the result. The difference is that I’m using light to paint with instead of pigment. The “really big difference” is I can either begin or stop at a moment and don’t have to be concerned about cleaning up ☺.

Thanks Wib. I do like it.

A beautiful painting Wib,,,, One can sense the remoteness of the place and the fox's cold and hunger as it looks for forages for food in the snow drifts. I love that little bit of sunlight coming throught the cloudsand lighting up the grass. The flakes of falling snow really add to the painting. I love it!!!

Thank you, Chandra - I do appreciate your comment.

For as long as I can remember I’ve been drawn to wild and lonely places. I’m not sure why. It’s not because I’m a recluse: maybe it’s because I love solitude, maybe it has something to do with the edgy nature of wilderness where survival can never be taken for granted but, I think, mostly it’s the bringing together of a stark uncompromising beauty married to the transitory and fleeting part of life itself. In this painting of a foraging fox crossing a cold bleak ridge in a snowstorm searching for sustenance wherever it can be found captures for me something of that feeling.
