How Green Was My Valley
The Industrial Revolution brought many advances in manufacturing processes but it also came at a very high cost. Steam engines required coal to fuel them and the countryside surrounding mining and manufacturing communities were transformed from places of beauty to ones of grime and desolation. Human suffering resulting from the relentless drive for higher profits was unfathomable. I recently re-watched How Green Was My Valley. The film is a most poignant story of a family and a community living through and coping with the devastation of a society in change.
