Super choice of subject matter Tony, and captured beautifully, there is so much to see in this, it is a joy to behold!

I do like this. It is such a busy scene but by keeping the palette muted and pale, you have simplified it this way and this has stopped any tendency towards fussiness. Cleverly done.

Thea: You are correct in your observations. Before the first paint stroke I made careful decisions as to where I should add detail and where I should avoid "fussiness". However, the picture elements were all important to the harmony of the total composition, so the decisions were a compromise. Where the eye follows the painting, in examining the elements, particular attention has to be given as to the level of detail shown. One wishes the observer to follow a linked chain of objects through the painting without getting "stuck" on specific elements because of unnecessary detail. You are correct about the selected palette. The muted effect, I feel for this subject, is more kind to the observer. Thanks for your well considered comments........... Tony

I think this is a beautiful picture, Tony. A picture with a story. It seems a lovely place to live! Great gallery you have here too!

An 11 inch by 14 inch Watercolour painting. Peggy's Cove is in Nova Scotia, Canada. It is a small fishing village with a natural harbour. The painting includes the key elements of a maritime community: a quay, boats, small businesses for provisioning fishing boats, homes on the hill, lobster and crab pots and, of course, the church on the hill. Peggy's Cove is a frequented by artists. The most frequently painted view is that of the Lighthouse. I chose the inner harbour for my subject. The harbour is small. Turn round 90 degrees counter-clockwise from the painted view and one sees the harbour entrance and the open sea: perhaps the subject of a future painting. Tony
