Stocks in a White Enamel Jug by Thea Cable

Stocks in a White Enamel Jug

Thea, your wet into wet abstractions of the stocks (and lemon) absolutely beautiful. I think a little more attention to the jug (gradation) and the plate (the ellipse does not quite ring true) and this painting would be outstanding! I can smell those stocks of yours.

Thank you very much, Peter, for your kind comments. I'm afraid my 'plate' is actually my loose interpretation of a lace cloth which the jug was resting on and which was a bit rumpled at the edges - hence the wobbly lines. I obviously need to work on lace cloths LOL!

Fresh as a daisy [ or should that be stocks!] lovely watercolour with a lemon to die for!

Thank you Debs and Kirstie - it is very kind of you to comment and say such nice things. I totally agree with you, Kirstie, and in fact I heard the historian Brian Sewell talking about paintings he had seen at the National Portrait Gallery recently and had been disappointed that there were so many paintings that he described as 'photographs in a painted form'. His view was that he wanted to see imagination. Of course, it is entirely down to personal preference of course and there is a place in art for all form of expression, but I think I, personally, rather agree with Mr Sewell on that one.

Another beautiful fresh and lively painting Thea, so easily recognisable as yours! I agree with your comments and that is why I find the on-line gallery so great, so many diffirent styles and interpretations.

Thank you, Christine, for your kind comment. As you say, the gallery is wonderful as the variety of work on offer is huge and really awe-inspiring. It is good to see the art community healthy and thriving.

Beautiful flowers Thea. I'm with Kirstie! Also, you do indeed have an instantly recognisable style of painting as Christine said. This one is lovely!

Thank you, Louise, for those kind words. I really enjoyed painting these lovely flowers - just wish I could paint the scent, which is so gorgeous. On to the next one now - and if I could just stop messing up the Provencal village painting that I have tried to do twice now I would be a happy bunny!

Thea, your style is so distinctive, and this is a lovely interpretation. I wonder whether I myself, would have placed the subject quite so high up the paper...I think your wonderful stocks need to be more in evidence - ie; lower on the paper? It is only my opinion and in no way detracts from your delightful technique.

'Not you best subject' eh?! Well, I don't believe you Thea. Every subject you turn your hand to, you do marvelously! It's a beautiful painting.

As others have said, instantly recognisable as a 'Thea'. I actually like the height of the flowers. A nice fresh, lively and colourful interpretation evoking the feel of summer and it's colours.

This is another nice painting Thea, the wet in wet of the flowers is really well done and the lemon is a rather nice touch, although I might have kept it ever so slightly up from the bottom edge of the painting, apart from that minor comment I like this a lot

They are all right, Thea: this is beautiful. Well done!

Thank you so much Ruth, Fiona, Alan, Graham and Mia for your very kind comments which I do so appreciate. I think both Ruth and Graham noticed that the flowers go off the page at the top and so does the lemon at the bottom. Call me weird, but I really like paintings where the subject continues off the page as I always feel that it gives a more spontaneous look - like a moment captured in time. In this painting I deliberately let some of the stocks drift off the page and only did two thirds of the lemon on the bottom, making the painting about a much more close up view. I know I am probably odd LOL!

I agree with everyone, this is a another beautiful painting Thea

For not being one of your best subjects, you have certainly made a good job, can't fault it.

Thank you Petra and Kevin for taking the time to comment and being so positive. It really does help a lot to get such nice feedback.

Your style and palette are always such a treat to look at ! This is super too!

A joy to look at as ever Thea.

Great piece of work Thea, I love the stocks wet in wet and the jug is well done. Oh and the lemon , great.

Thank you so much Avril, Lesley and Carole for your nice comments which are always so welcome.

Thea, you certainly got the conversation going with this one! It is lovely, and at the end of the day, how something is painted is entirely up to the artist; you arrange things the way you choose, and if people like what you've done, great. If they don't or would choose to do it differently, so be it. We're all different, thank goodness! Keep going - looking forward to seeing your next success!

Thank you, Jane for your kind comments. I do so agree with you about interpretation - it has to be very personal and I feel the whole idea is to make your viewer look at the subject through your eyes and perhaps see something in a different way to how they would have perceived it. Anyway - that's the ideal and goal - doesn't always work out that way though!

Such a lovely, cheerful painting, Thea. It's such a reward to view this little gem as I am trawling through my backlog of paintings!

I can't decide which of your paintings I like most. This one is realy beautiful. So nice soft colours.

Lovely light, fresh colours! You have a beautiful gallery of work.

Lovely, Thea! Very C.R. I love the white jug especially.

Beautiful!
