Very good Thea! I like the rich colours of the lighthouse balanced by the boat and overall fresh colour scheme. The touch of turquoise on the top of the tree is nice as well. The more I look, the more colour I see. A lot of thought must go in to your choice of colours which are always clean and fresh!

This is a super little scene Thea, love the bright little canal boats moored by the windmill, lovely sky and water, a real holiday feel to it, so appropriate at this time of year, all the colours work so well together as well, a great success x

Thank you very much Louise and Ros. I must confess to be surprised as how nice your comments are as I wasn't at all sure that I had cracked this one at all. I do really appreciate your feedback - so thank you again.

Hi Thea, love this one, isn't it always the case, you think your not sure, because it didn't go exactly how you planed, but every one else loves it. In my opinion it all seems to work very well.

I know, Peter - I'm totally rubbish at assessing how I have done. Paintings do quite often grow on me, so perhaps getting nice comments like yours will persuade me that it isn't as iffy as I first thought. Thank you very much for your encouragement - really appreciated.

Thea, I think this is very good! The colours as Louise said are beautiful and lead us around the picture. Looks lovely and loose to me. I think many of us "ladies" suffer from a lack of confidence due no doubt to our education!!! Well done on another winner!

I think this is a lovely painting, it needs no more , you will like it better later.

Thank you very much Avril and Karyl for your positive feedback. Karyl - it is growing on me, so perhaps I shouldn't be so impatient and wait to assess paintings after a short break from them. A lesson learned I think! Avril, you may well be right about ladies and confidence. I was educated at a convent where the main goal appeared to be to make you feel guilty about everything and confidence was seen as a sin of pride. I didn't stand much of a chance, did I, lol!

I am 100% sure I like it, Thea! It's absolutely lovely - loads of atmosphere and a composition that moves the eye around. Oh, and did I ever mention I really like your palette?

For various reasons I've not been on for a while so apologies for missing some of your paintings. This is just lovely. You always know when to stop and put the brush down. I'm afraid I would have added a little more water, ( by that I mean the river not diluting the paint more LOL ) then perhaps some more and ending up with a completely ruined painting:)

Glad you posted it, I think it is such a nice scene in your usual lovely style :)

As usual I seem to be playing 'catch up' so there's very little to add as most of my thoughts have already been quoted so I'll just add that I like the way you've handled the white sails against a cloudy sky, which could have been tricky but you've achieved very nicely!

Thank you very much Seok and Michael - your comments are much appreciated.

Thank you very much Val, Sarah and Debs. I do so appreciate your stopping by to leave such nice comments. Val, it is the eternal dilemma - when to stop. I have a horror of going too far so I creep along very slowly when I get to a certain point in a painting, adding just one brushstroke at a time until I get to the moment that I think that I should stop. I don't always get it right, but I find it it better to stop before you think you should stop than to keep going and then have to try and backtrack. What we do without these challenges in our painting lol!

I like the shades in the windmill. a lovely painting Thea.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this lovely watercolour Thea! The watermill is gorgeous and the boats sit so well at the riverbank. I like your vignette type paintings a lot and admire your CONFIDENCE knowing when to stop.

Thank you very much Carole and Satu for such kind comments. Ah, Satu - knowing when to stop - a dilemma for all of us I think.

The colours here are lovely and the whole picture gives a feeling of calm. I have not looked at the site for a few weeks but I think your Black Caviar is excellent.

I'm 50/50 about this one. It started out ok with the windmill and sky working out quite well, but then - well, I don't know - it sort of lost it's way a bit I think. Perhaps I have been too precise? Or too predictable? Not sure. Anyway, as it wasn't that bad so I thought I would post it anyway. Watercolour on Fabriano Artistica Extra White 300lbs.

I am a watercolourist first and foremost as I love the qualities of the medium, its riskiness and unpredictability. I started painting about 8 years ago and it has now become an integral part of my life. Hopefully, I will continue to paint into my dotage as I am given to understand that you can…
