Love this portrait Thea, you are so talented

Thank you very much, Petra. That is a very nice and generous compliment and I appreciate it.

Nice one Thea, love the pallet and the facial texture you have archived. For me what really brings it together is the way you have limited the detail on the head dress and clothing, which enables you to concentrate on the face. Just love your style.

Super portrait of an American Indian Thea. I especially like the confident way that you've painted his profile, his nose and mouth. Also, he looks very proud ! Very well done.

Great portrait, my son in law Paul lived for a year with the Cree Indians in Canada, and an Elder of the tribe came over to take part in a Sweat lodge ceremony, here in Wales. I've never met anyone with so much silent presence, and this portrait reminds me of him.

He certainly has presence, Thea. The mouth and the nose are particularly good. Sets the profile if that makes sense.

Thank you very much, Peter, Louise, Debs and Gudrun for your positive comments. Very much appreciated.

He's lovely Thea. I can see it coming into focus

Thank you, Kim, I appreciate your encouragement. First portrait after my course - it's a start anyway - got a long way to go.

I like the way you've focused on his face - the man is important an not his apparel! So pleased the course has boosted your confidence although your paintings have always been super - sky's the limit!

Hello Thea, I have not been around here for a while and have been caching up with your posts. You have achieved so much since I first met up with you As usual they are amazing, but I particularly love this one. I too like the way you have focussed on his fact. .

Oh dear, that should have been "face" of course.

A strong proud face, beautifully painted. isn't it a great feeling when you know that you have learnt something new and that knowledge gives you confidence in your work. Well done Thea!

Great work Thea, you have indeed approached this one with a great deal more confidence than before you went on the Charles Reid course, and that clearly shows with the much stronger skintones evident in this one which brings much more believability to the portrait, and that is a joy to see in any portrait. Thanks so much for your super comment on my Nelson Mandela pastel portrait, I am delighted that you like him so much, it was not clear until I was well into this portrait that it was going to turn out like I wanted it to, now I am happy with it especially as I am seeing plenty of complimentary comments on it which always makes the work worthwhile, bye for now xxx

My all time favourite film is 'Dances With Wolves', which portrays a much truer picture of the Native American people than the savage and backward people we have all been led to believe they were. It showed them as a proud people, with a complex and fascinating culture. When I saw this photo, I immediately wanted to paint it and see if I could convey that feeling of pride and honour that was so much a part of their lives. This is the first portrait I have done since the Charles Reid course I went on and I feel that what I learned made me able to tackle it with a lot more more confidence than usual. Watercolour on Fabriano Artistico Extra White.

I am a watercolourist first and foremost as I love the qualities of the medium, its riskiness and unpredictability. I started painting about 8 years ago and it has now become an integral part of my life. Hopefully, I will continue to paint into my dotage as I am given to understand that you can…
