Good to see you back again. I have missed seeing your inspirational work. Your lightness of touch and colour palette make them stand out for me. In this one I love the colour connection between the background and the vase.

Thank you, Christine, you've cheered up a failing artist no end with your lovely comment.

Despite your description above Thea, this paintng is full of confidence, grace and your usual gift of clarity in watercolour. The simplest things are nearly always the closest to perfection.

A beautiful and attractive painting with delicate tintsThea. I like the title as well.

Just had a quick look at the Gallery and what a treat, three lovely watercolours from Fiona, Carole and this beauty from you. I love the way you echo the tints in the background. A lovely painting Thea.

Thank you Fiona, Carole and Christine - you are giving a disillusioned lady a real lift with your positive feedback.

Well, you kept us waiting but it was well worth the wait! This is beautiful Thea. I like the light, delicate colours and the vertical lines in the background balance the composition very nicely. Also, the enamel vase works well. It has a nice glow to it, and it's colour is reflected in the background I notice! Right decision to leave out extra bits and pieces in this one. The flowers stand well alone. Very well done, it's a beauty. No more talk of 'doldrums' now after this!!!

No need to feel disillusioned after painting this gem, Thea! We'll be looking out for the next one very soon now you've got your painting head back in action!

Thank you Louise and Jane for your lovely comments. Right Louise, I will snap out of it now - can't risk you dishing me out a slap on the wrist now, can I lol! No more doldrums - promise.

Lovely delicate colours and a beautiful painting

Missed your postings and this a great one to add to your gallery. know all about the doldrums - I am in a bad (painting) patch at the moment - hope i can come up with something as good as this.

Thank you very much, Glennis, such a nice comment and much appreciated.

It's off to Sainbury's for you, young Michael - I found inspiration between the pork chops and loo rolls. Seriously, having a bad patch in your painting is so depressing, isn't it. I don't know what goes wrong but it just strikes and every brush stroke you make seems to make a painting worse rather than better. A sad state of affairs indeed. Different remedies work for different people - hope you find your mojo again very soon and thank you so much for leaving such a nice comment.

Well treating yourself to a bunch of flowers certainly worked for you Thea, this is delightful. Just a hint of colour really sets off the enamel vase and I thought you didn't like greens, just look at those leaves, perfect.

Fresh as a daisy - well ok no daisies but you know what I mean, super painting!

Hi Thea, how is it I nave missed your work, I don't know. Your brush work is the lightest of touch and your pallett is pure and translucent. Love your portfolio. Thanks for the tip regarding the copy right, checked, it is there, hence the reason for taking them off, shame they where only a fun thing for Freinds.

Lovely and delicate Thea. I also love your colours and the composition.

Good to see you back Thea! Don't I just know how it feels when nothing inspires you and you think that you'll never be able to paint again. Fortunately it ( the desire to paint) always comes back and very often with flowers because they cheer you up with their natural beauty and lovely scent. Your watercolour here is so delicate and gentle and it shows again how very talented you are Thea.

Thank you so much Val, Debs, Peter, Jean and Satu for such generosity and kind words, which I really appreciate. Sorry about the copyright issue, Peter, it is a shame, but I wouldn't like anyone to get into any hot water about it. At least you can still enjoy your lovely painting in the comfort of your own home.

I've not been here for many months - saw your pic and was pleased to see an old friend, read your description and 'connected' immediately, we seem to have been in the same boat ! Funny us both trying to 'restart' at the same time. Lovely fresh and pretty painting, Thea, keep going

sorry, tried to send and it wouldn't so did it again and it did it twice

Lovely painting and story behind it.It is good to recognise the various flowers in the vase.Look forward to seing some more.

A stunning piece, Thea! I think you did the right thing not adding fruits or other items here - you've done a really cracking job showcasing the gorgeous flowers.

Thank you so much Jenny - hope your lean time is over soon. It is really depressing, isn't it, to lack the inspiration and find it hard to make anything work. Luckily, it is usually only temporary! Thank you very much Douglas for your very kind comment, especially if you were able to recognise the flowers - I am not usually that accurate! Seok - are you back from your travels? So nice to hear from you and thank you for your very generous comment.

Glad you got your mojo back, I only wish that I could find mine again :} Anyway! This painting is a pleasure to look at and I hope that it is the first of many more to come. Best wishes :)

Thank you, Sarah, for your positive comment. It is funny how many people have now said that they are having a lean time on the painting front at the moment. Perhaps it was the wet summer, or just the holidays making a break in the routine. It definitely affected me. Perhaps the only good thing about the autumn and winter is that the nights draw in, we do less outside and are more included to do some painting (unless you are a plein air freak of course in which case you brave the elements in all seasons).

Must have missed this one, a lovely floral painting Thea. Can never get the hang of flowers (must be a man thing) but these are super.

This is so pretty Fiona.

Thank you very much Stephen and Denise for your lovely comments. Stephen I should just dive in there and have a go at flowers as there seem to be some chaps on POL doing a great job of painting them. After all, most of the best gardeners are men - so why not the best flowers artists being men, too??

I have been depressingly in the doldrums on the painting front for weeks and have totally lacked inspiration. Fed up with this I set off, with a steely glint in my eye, to buy myself a bunch of flowers that hopefully would inspire me and get me painting again. One trip to Sainsbury's later and one bunch of flowers acquired, I have managed to paint something that I am prepared to add to my portfolio (all the others have graced the bin instead). It was a lovely, colourful scented bouquet and I hope I have gone some way to conveying that. I have kept it simple, just the flowers, my enamel vase and my trusty lace cloth that has figured in some of my other paintings. I resisted the temptation to add fruit, jugs or other bits and pieces and hope this was the right decision. Watercolour on Langton 140lbs, 31cm x 39cm.

About the Artist
Thea Cable

I am a watercolourist first and foremost as I love the qualities of the medium, its riskiness and unpredictability. I started painting about 8 years ago and it has now become an integral part of my life. Hopefully, I will continue to paint into my dotage as I am given to understand that you can…
