Good to see you're 'back in the saddle' with your drawings, good study and I love the splashes of red which bring it to life.

Great sketch Thes - are we going to see the painted version?

Like the sketch Thea, nice composition to consider taking further into perhaps a watercolour piece and, also like the red gate, draws your eye right into the painting.

Beautiful drawing Thea, the red gates are a nice touch of colour

Thank you, guys - it is very kind of you to comment so nicely. It is only a doodle really, but I am being very virtuous and trying to develop my drawing skills. Michael, sorry - no painted version as I can't do that sort of landscape in paint - bit rubbish at them.

Graham - just realised that you also suggested a watercolour version - sorry as said to Michael I am totally rubbish at that sort of scene in watercolour, so it would be a horrible mess if I tried.

Very nice drawing Thea, I think pencil drawing is much undervalued and stands well on its own. I enjoy watercolour too and like with pencil drawing, practice, practice, practice is the key! I find drawing the harder skill and of course is the foundation skill to all good art. I remember reading an Alwyn Crawshaw book many years ago where he encouraged readers to add light washes on top of their pencil drawings as a lead in to watercolour painting, perhaps that could be worth a try?

Good sketch Thea. I always think that good drawing skills are important. What strikes me here is that you use the water soluble pencils in a similar way that you apply paint. I can see this in the tree shapes. It's your style but in a different medium. You could paint this scene. I found the ducks, the clue was in the pond :)

When I say that you could paint this scene, I should have said that you are perfectly capable of painting it.

Very good drawing Thea, I especially like the touches of red which brings it all to life. I found the ducks!

Lovely work Thea. I admire your "volonté" and the fact that you get down to work for real. When not painting I keep saying i should be drawing at least...... but don't get any further! Well done.

Well done, Thea. I also found the ducks! I agree with Louise, why not giving it a go: you have painted so many beautiful landscapes. I also agree with Stephen about the pencil drawing being undervalued, I love doing it. I think it is the first thing to learn and it makes you look at everything in a different way (if you know what I mean?).

Very good drawing Thea and the ducks were easy to find too, well done.

Lovely drawing Thea. I spotted your ducks!

Ducks spotted :) , and the houses and trees are beautifully drawn.

I missed this (I've been away). This a lovely drawing and I share Louise's conviction that you are capable of painting it if you wanted to! On the other hand I haven't been near a landscape myself for months :) and I rather like the monochrome with splashes of red, as val says they bring the scene to life.

Hi Thea. Your drawing style is as distinctive as your method of applying paint...I think Louise pointed this out, and it's true. Good strong composition here, I like it very much. Which grade of water-soluble pencil did you use, I wonder, as the tone is such a gentle, pleasing grey. Found the quackers, by the way....but had to look quite hard!

Hi Thea, you may not be managing one drawing a week but I love those you have done and the touches of red are great.,

Splendid drawing, really like it.

Lol, Thea! My drawing resolutions are always cast aside before they're even made! This is lovely though, gentle and subtle as an English village should be but with all the right tones. Love that tint of red.

wonderful sketch love the splashes of red..............

Many thanks to everyone who has kindly commented on my drawing - much appreciated. It isn't my best skill I have to say, but it is work in progress.

Nice drawing, nice character and quality to your drawing, I recognised the village immediately, it is Tissington, Derbyshire, it's only about twelve miles from where I live Thanks for your feedback on my painting.

Lovely tonal study with the less is more addition of red doors. Reminded me of Southwick in my native Hampshire, where all the doors are painted red.

Getting very behind with my resolution to post one drawing a week. I am horribly lazy about drawing, but enjoy it when I get going. Very simple and quick sketch here of a village pond done in water soluble pencils (and a bit of watercolour).

I am a watercolourist first and foremost as I love the qualities of the medium, its riskiness and unpredictability. I started painting about 8 years ago and it has now become an integral part of my life. Hopefully, I will continue to paint into my dotage as I am given to understand that you can…
