If you had a dark background now, you would have to change all the edges of the fruit - light against dark and vice versa. Dark backgrounds work well but this works too.

Phew! Thanks Marjorie.

Marjorie's right and anyway that blue is very complementary

That’s what I thought Heather! Thank you. x

Looks very good to me Tessa ☺️

Very nice Tessa. I think the contrast of blue is good. dark background would also look good but a very different type of painting and it depends where the light came from.

Thank you Stephen.

And thanks to Val Irene. The background is made up so I think I’m happy with the blue. 👍🏻

A tempting panting Tessa.

I like the light background Tessa, it works well.

Many thanks Carole, Denise and Russell. 🙏😊

Beautifully done Tessa! I think the lighter background enhances the painting!!

Many thanks David.

I like the blue Tessa, we tend to see so many black backgrounds lately on still life work… influenced by the great Caravaggio I suspect! A minor observation which you may think of adopting next time, is perhaps softer edges on the fruit, particularly where it touches the background… not every edge, but in places. Haidee-Jo adopts this style and it works!

Thank you Alan. Yes, now I look again, I see your point. Always room for improvement, thanks for pointing out. 👍🏻

Thanks Coral.

Lovely, I like the background as it is.

Thank you Sandra, I think the blue stays! 😀

Some nice brushwork in both the fruit and the background and I like the pale blue which works well for the orange tones in the fruit.

I appreciate that Andy, thank you.

This has worked well, but for me a dark background would have made the fruit more prominent ( but that’s more because of my colourblindness),

A4 acrylic on paper, done at art group this morning from life. One of the group suggested a dark background, what do you think? The background used was actually white but I changed to blue as opposite to most of the fruit.
