Maestro - Sketchbook - dip pen and ink.

Excellent Lew…nicely controlled pen work! but where are all the splatters and blobs? I’m currently working on some dip pen stuff for the magazine, complete with splatters!

Thank you Alan. I had one large blob, but luckily it was where his dark suit was. My memory of dip pens causing splatters is a false one, the nibs I'm using seem largely blob-free. But if I get any I shan't worry. I look forward to your article.

Yes, I tend to leave them… par for the course! To a large extent I think it depends on the paper, more surface grain equals more splatters!

This actually looked like my music teacher I had at school. Excellent Lewis it's a great drawing.

Excellent. First of many I hope Lew. Love the winkle pickers. (-:

And we all thought that you were the maestro! Splendid work.

Another brilliant caricature Lew. I'd hate to be the first violinist!

Brilliant use of pen and ink and such a character Lewis.

Maestro - like you Lewis!

A great Maestro!

Amazing pen work Lewis great drawing

Great fun. I like your Maestro a lot!

Blobs and splatters come inevitably with mapping pens: fun to draw with, if very delicate (Ralph Steadman must have got through hundreds of them) whereas the Gillot rigid (more or less) steel nibs produce fewer blots: though - I've never got through a pen and ink drawing without dropping a blot somewhere. Love this drawing, anyway: possibly a somewhat demanding maestro...

Absolutely brilliant Lewis. I don’t think you would dare play a wrong note in front of him!

Thanks to all for looking and your encouraging comments.

Great character Lewis- wonder which musician isn’t keeping time!

This is fabulous, Lewis. It's such an expressive piece, with superb rendering of textures. I especially love the contrast between that frizzy mop and the shiny shoes - so well done!

Scary! Great drawing Lew.

Love it Lew....

Magnificent Lewis.

I know that look. Brilliant drawing Lewis!!

No time for art for the past couple of weeks or so. Thought I'd go back to basics.

About the Artist
Lewis Cooper

Self taught. Love drawing. Like to make pictures up, without using reference pics, often in cartoon style. I do other pictures where I do use reference. I'm knocking on a bit, born in 1940 in Greenwich, London. Retired, and loving it.
