I love the description of that small area in your garden Fiona and this pen & wash is absolutely delightful!

Excellent - spare, strong, sharply drawn with the pen (dip pen?), and just the right amount of colour to bring it all to life.

Makes a nice painting Fiona , fair play to you , you take on anything .

What a wonderful little coastal area you've made in your garden Fiona, the sketch is so lively and heartfelt.

Thank you Satu, this area is getting larger and larger, I walk on the beach quite often and I just can't resist picking things up!

Yes Robert it's done with a dip pen, and almost impossible to try and do a circle/curve with, which I found out today! Thank you for your comment.

Thank you very much Dennis!

Thanks Christine, you can put the liveliness down to the wind blowing my sketch pad and arm!

Lovely work, Fiona. Beautiful pen marks. You inspire me to have another go at the pen and wash.

Go on Jennifer get your pen out and have a go! Thank you for your lovely comment. Actually looking at this again on the screen it could do with some darker darks....tomorrow maybe!

Your pen work demonstrates an almost book illustration style, a superb little sketch, well done indeed.

Lovely Fiona - I do like all those scratchy lines and marks, they look great and add to the character of the sketch.

It's got that Fiona quality

Scratchy lines and marks never - every mark tells it own story - lovely sketchwork.

Lovely, a special place

A lovely composition Fiona, with that diagonal and all the different shapes. And just the right amount of colour, it is so attractive, as is I imagine that corner of your garden which sounds great.

Many thanks Alan, Dympna, Dennis, Michael, Glennis and Sharon for all your very kind comments, they are always gratefully received.

Gorgeous - I do love your way with the pen - it seems to dance over the paper and leave these superb dynamic marks. I am envious of your skill!

Very attractive work Fiona.

Fabulous work, Fiona! I really love those gestural lines and the beautiful accents and tints in all the right places.

Lovely lively piece Fiona

That's a lovely thing to say about my scruffy pen work Thea, and I can assure you there's no skill involved!lol.

Thank you Carole, Seok and Dermot for your feedback.

Very lively and descriptive work!

Everyone has beaten me to it Fiona, this is a little gem. You're inspiring me to try more pen in my work.

Debs, Val....thanks very much for your comments!

What is it they say Val 'less is more' very true in this case, tells a great story of your corner, I understand completely, my thing has always been interesting old tree roots and branches gathered from various areas, these are now built into my garden. Again lovely piece of work everything else has been said by everyone else.

Very recognisably yours. Fabulous. Definitely do some more.

Malcolm, I can't resist picking up bits! I even dragged my husband with me to collect 15 huge tree roots/stumps that now for a stumpery in the garden. I'll have to do a quick sketch of that at some point. Thank you very much for your comment.

Thanks Gudrun....I think the 'stumpery' may be next!

Pen & wash sketch I did quickly this afternoon, it was very windy and not that warm either....so apologies for scratchy lines and marks. It's a small area of the garden where I put any flotsam and jetsam I pick up on the beach; there are shells, pebbles, rope, shark skins, sea urchins, skulls, metal bouys of all different sizes, drift wood etc. The posts are old strainer post from the paddock fence which I buried and it's all planted up with grasses, pinks.......
