A Very Rough Sketch and a Story!

I've no need to worry about the competition then for a while, ridiculous goings on over the border, but you have shown us a lovely sketch, it really is a little gem.

Fiona you are very clever, your story of Johnny your tractor made me chuckle and wow what a masterpiece this is maybe I need to borrow your tractor, this is awesome, love it.

Ha ha! That was worthy of a blog Fiona. It made me smile. I like the sketch too.

Love it Fiona, and the story, a very lovely sketch

lovely sketch Fiona to the usual high standard hope Jonny is ok

Sorry Alan, I failed miserably! I'll be trying the mono print tomorrow....no need for Johnny's help, I hope. Thanks very much. Lol thank you Jenny....glad it made you smile. Peter, David and David you are very kind. It's very rough and was only meant as a quick idea before attacking the hardboard! Thanks very much.

Lovely sketch Fiona and even better story! I laughed out loud 😊

I laughed too Fiona - what a story. I was imagining you, head turned back, reversing. What a brainwave - shame it didn't quite work. I love those twiggy twigs of yours.

Love the sketch as always Fiona, but after reading the story are you sure you did not have a wee dram to many in the process? by the sounds of it you need to lay down, you must be feeling 'tyred' ohhh sorry that was so bad but could not resist it.😴🚜

Thanks for the fun and the brilliant artwork Fiona.

Love the branches and the colours... oh, and the story as well!! =D

Lovely - as always Fiona. +1 Like.

You're a hoot, Fiona! It's the reason why I haven't ventured beyond Gelli and gelatin printing - I haven't got a tractor! But that is a gorgeous painting, spontaneous, free with good variation of lines and marks. Who needs a print when the original is so fabulous!

Great tyre print Fiona can't stop laughing

Fiona you can so improvise! Had to have a laugh😆 A great result. I haven't got a press or a tractor only a Corgi one.

Brilliant sketch and a brilliant story! I can just see it! Why not post the result????

For a quick sketch the end result is very effective. Had a good chuckle about the tractor saga!! :)

Lovely sketch, Fiona, shame about the print, but a hilarious description of your first attempt! (I couldn't find any perspex either, but my husband gave me one of his old motorbike number plates to use, it's bright yellow, but did the job). If at first you don't succeed......

Karen, Marjorie glad it made you giggle, I'm just glad no one saw me, I did it outside in the rain as well! Oh Malcolm, that's terrible...lol. You may not believe me but not a drop passed my lips......does that mean I should see someone in a professional capacity? Michael, thanks very much but I don't know about brilliant artwork...lol Thanks again all!

Jenny, Christopher, Seok, Dennis, Carole....thank you very much! Perhaps I could start off a new technique for printing, trouble is, it has to work doesn't it! lol Thanks Gudrun....good idea, I'll fish it out of the dustbin.....I'm just trying to think what I've put in the bin on top of it! Many thanks Keith. Jenny...that's a good idea, I think I might have one of my old motorbike number plates in the garage somewhere. Thanks for the tip and your comment.

Fiona, your story has brightened up a dismal day! Thank you!! I love your little sketch!

A tractor as an art tool - It wouldn't have occurred to me :-) Well done

Not only a great artist but a great storyteller too....thank you for the entertainment...love the sketch too.

Ha ha....that's a nice thing to say Chandra, glad it made you smile, it makes it was worth all the trouble. No Malcolm, any sane person probably wouldn't think of using a tractor as an art tool......thank you!lol You are welcome Sylvia...stayed tuned, I'm thinking of doing a mono print this afternoon......goodness knows what adventures that will cause!!

I have an incredible image of you reversing the tractor in the living room with the bath towel on the floor with something flat underneath!! Great story Fiona and I would like to see the print with tyre marks. The sketch is lovely too!

What super words...........you big numpty Fiona. A tyre? This is one elluva study but from you what else?

Satu, I was actually outside in the pouring rain!!lol Yes Derek that about sums me up...lol Thank you both very much.

Sketch book sketch in pen & wash. Seeing Alan Bickley's demo of printing on the forum, it inspired me to have a go. No this isn't a dry point etching but the sketch prior to doing the print...... I searched the attic for a piece of perspex that I thought I had, 30 minutes later, no perspex, but I did find a couple of bits of hardboard. Another ten minutes and I had found some sharp pointy things for scratching out in my husbands tool box. So, Sketch done, hardboard scratched out, inked and ready to be pressed.....it looked good inked up. Damped my piece of paper ready to take the print....this is where, technically I fell down....I don't have a press but I do have a 'Johnny'. Johnny is my tractor, a small one yes, but powerfully built! I laid my print on the floor, packed it with a towel, fired up Johnny and reversed over it a couple of times. Now the exciting bit...holding my breath I peeled away the padding to reveal ......drum roll.....a beautiful tyre print!
