Very very nice Fiona it works so well and from left overs

Dennis you are very kind. I like to post my utter failures as well as my usual failures.Lol.

I actually quite like this, Fiona, particularly the abstract nature of the sky and sea - the suggestion of the clouds and the white-horse-waves - and I suspect you had fun with the buildings!

Top class Fiona. Well done.

It doesn't look a failure to me Fiona, good pen and wash

I really like it Fiona. It has that energy and confidence about it, what I call speed painting and it works very well. These quick 'left over' paintings are often a success because we're more relaxed when painting them. You question it because it probably took little time to do and yet others will appreciate the skill that's gone into it.

Not a 'failure' at all I like it especially the sea which I think works really well!

Jolly little scene Fiona, not rubbish at all! Brave you for trying;)

Fancy you a Derbyshire girl! I am Nottinghamshire girl but have lived in Derbyshire for over 30 yrs ;)

I actually like this a lot, Fiona - the zingy energy and vibrant marks give this painting life and atmosphere. It's super! And yes, like you, I find monoprinting much harder than it looks!

Don't put your paintings down Fiona you and your paintings are very nice . This one has a blobby fresh quality to it and i like it . Well done Fiona .

Just an afterthought what exactly is monoprinting ?

You are such a lovely lot and very generous too! I had no particular idea about what would appear from the print, I outlined the first thing that came to mind....of course it was really determined by the colours of paint I had left over as well.
Dennis, looking at this I'm probably not the best person to described what monoprinting is......I used a sheet of glass which I applied paint on, then you can either draw into, scrap out of, or swirl around, then you put your support (I used acrylic paper, but you can use canvas, canvas boad, anything really) onto the paint and press firmly. Lift off and there you have it....a masterpiece!Lol. It works the best with inks I think but I found out too late that the paint needs to be thinned down a little.
Thank you all again for your lovely comments.

It think this style is harder than it looks, so jolly well done for being able to produce such a vibrant and accomplished painting that way. Love the choppy water, the suggested houses and the whole impressionistic look of the piece. I can see you are having fun time experimenting and trying out new things. I never used to do that, but I have seen the benefits now of keeping an open mind and just having a go just as you are doing here.

I tried two things here; using up left over oil paint (using Derek's idea) and monoprinting. Only one was successful as you can see, it used up some of the paint but the monoprinting part failed. The reason I found out, is because the paint is too thick. I managed to do three disasters before realising I was doing something wrong! Did a quick scribble with a black marker around the shapes that appeared.......I know, load of rubbish!
