Nonetheless ... it's got a lot of good things going for it.

It look ok but needs something, but don’t know what , don’t bin it and look again in a day or two .

Well now…I like the sky and I like the foreground, but maybe they are not walking hand in hand! Could you perhaps make the foreground tones lighter(or the sky darker)? I certainly wouldn’t bin it, it just needs a little sympathetic adjustment!

Thanks very much Heather, Paul, Tessa. Might work Paul but the more I look at it especially now it’s on the screen, the less inclined I am towards it. It perhaps hasn’t been the best of days to photograph it and it does look darker on the gallery. You are right though, it doesn’t work. Like you I think the sky is passable…..oh well, on to the next! Lol Thanks again!

The sky on this one is really good, Fiona - I think it would look better if you cropped the foreground - but having said that I love the way you have painted the foreground!!

Glad to see the condemned given a reprieve. Worth saving. Tessa has a point. If it was mine I would probably give the near sky some serious welly with darks and slightly lighten the middle distance which atm has the same tonal value as the foreground. But it’s yours so free to ignore!

The sky is anything but flat! Keep it and see what you think about it later.

That sky is amazing Fiona.

David, Martin, Carolyn, Sylvia……many thanks for taking the time to give me your opinions and observations. Yes, knock back the middle distance and crop the foreground a little….could work better than it does at the moment. The other option is do it again, it was mainly a sky study, I should have made up a more simplified landscape really. Thanks again folks.

I love it as it is 😌

I love that sky but it’s competing with the rest of the painting. If it’s any consolation I’ve just painted something really boring - it won’t go anywhere yet but I’ll work on it. I’m lucky because it’s oil.

I like both elements Fiona, if you imagine a cropped image showing more foreground than sky it still works. Like being amongst the undergrowth. Anyhow, don't bin it... there are always collages to make ....

It looks good to me Fiona

All is not lost Fiona. We have all been there. Tomorrow with fresh eyes you might feel and see it differently.

Great sky and some great suggestions here. Amazing what different sets of eyes see. Revisit tomorrow and it will bring a different perspective.

Don't nock it Fiona, it's fine like it is.

Oops, meant Knock !

Love the feeling of a breeze and the sky is wonderful Fiona.

I think the sky is superb Fiona, full of colour and texture. It contrasts well against the foliage beneath.

Such convincing and appreciated thoughts and I thank you for them all! Your response and encouragement has been a boost to see it through. X I think it was doomed from the last stroke of paint of the sky and the first stoke of the landscape. I was content with the sky and thought, that’s it, it’s finished and duped myself in to thinking it didn’t matter what I did with the rest. Lazy! I’ll look again tomorrow armed with your input and see what, if anything, I can do. Thanks again

Fabulous sky Fiona.

I love love love that sky Fiona- keep it - put it away and have another look later- 🥂🥂

Honestly, the foreground works, the middle ground works.. and the sky is great.

I like this Fiona, perhaps I would incorporate a bit more far - middle distance? But don’t spoil it listening to me 🙄Great lively sky though.

Very well painted. I have a similar dilemma with an acrylic seascape I am painting and have decided to add a yacht. Would a fisherman in a boat be angling in this river?

I like the colours and movement in the sky Fiona. I don’t normally comment on what if anything could be different but as you are not fully happy with it perhaps if the trees in the middle distance where a little lighter then it would add to the sense of depth? I would certainly keep it!

It's in three layers, which you've broken up with twigs, and then there's the sky: that's all that's 'wrong' with it - just needs breaking up a bit: if you were to crop, I'm not at all sure where you'd do it: those foreground twigs make sense at the moment - would they, if you cropped from the bottom? Keep it, there's a lot of good in it which you can incorporate in your next stonking success!

Lol….those two glasses should do the trick Michael. Isn’t always that easy is it ☹️ Thank you Denise x Rachel, I’ve had another look and will post shortly, thank you. Bless you Andrew, thanks. Carole, thank you I’ve had a tinker, see what you think. Thank you C G D Taylor, reassuring that other people have a similar problem, good luck with yours. Many thanks David, I have taken yours and others idea ref the middle distance, appreciate your input. Robert, thank you! I’ve done exactly that, broken up the foreground shoreline and the far tree line as well as desaturating the line of trees. Thank you for your feedback.

I don't know, Fiona. Perhaps it would bring the tones of the sky and the earth closer together. But maybe it's good the contrast. In fact I like it. What do you think about this?

Hi Coral, thank you for leaving your comment and suggestion. I’ve changed it somewhat and posted the result.

14”x10” mixed media. Mainly watercolour, graphite, oil pastel. Saved from the bin by Martin S T…..for the moment. I still think it’s flat and the tonal range is way out but there you go. It may make a small improvement if I crop the foreground by half? Mainly made up (foreground) it was the sky I was after capturing.
