In The Style of Picasso - art class

Comments

Splendid work Fiona. Painting and palette first class.

Very skilfully done, Fiona with such a complex subject - lovely colours!

Your art group forays into other styles have been fascinating...and here's another, instantly recognisable as Picasso style. I like his work but can't always recognise his objects. I 'think' yours is a candlestick seen from all directions at once...a la Picasso.

Excellent painting Fiona , sadly despite looking I’ve failed to see what it is , sorry .😞

Excellent work Fiona, at first I thought a small jug but on closer inspection, I think Lewis might be right. Love it.

I like those colours together Fiona. It could be a candlestick or a jug with a handle. I would find Picasso difficult too, definitely not my way of thinking. But great to push oneself and have a go.

Superb work again!, Fiona!

You have tackled Picasso with great gusto. Such complex shapes and intricate design must be a nightmare to attempt. Love the colours. I’m sure you’ll learn loads.

Thank you very much for your positive feedback, I’m not finding this style easy, so your support is appreciated. Lewis well spotted, the object is a glass Art Deco candlestick.

Beautiful colours, like it

You have made a great job Fiona - not sure I would know where to start. Can see the benefits though of thinking with a cubist mind, and I really like your colour choices.

A beauty love it 💜

This has a nice dimension to it and I like it a lot Fiona. Doesn’t look like you struggled with it, and the results are a great success.

Fantastic painting, Fiona. You're braver than I would be.

Like this a lot

Looks complicated Fiona, very well done!

Fascinating abstract, Fiona, love the colours!

Is it a bridge Fiona? Sorry, couldn't resist! This is a fine painting and well done you for trying something so different. I really like the colours here and the all the shapes.

I love it, Fiona. Really well interpreted and difficult to do. I’ve tried on a couple of occasions and ended up painting over it. I like Picasso and Paul Klee is another favourite of mine.

Many thanks again to you all for your very encouraging comments, I’m grateful for your input. Hope to finish it off in tomorrow’s class. It’s a good job I was sitting down when I read your comment Louise, I came over all unnecessary! Lol

I really like these shapes. Enjoy your next session!

Thanks Gudrun, I’ll try, glad when I’ve finished it!

Excellent Fiona I would like to buy one of your paintings I've got seventy quid to spend and would love one of your landscape paintings. If you have anything in this price range would you please let me know. Best wishes Dennis

I'm not a fan of Picasso but I find the colours and shapes in this very easy on the eye and like it, like it a lot.

This is amazing Fiona - the shapes and the colours are terrific. You've certainly overcome any fear you had concerning Picasso style. I hope you are safe and warm - just heard Dumfries and Galloway mentioned in connection with snow and power cuts

Sorry Fiona, it was a long time ago but I can't forget. As the saying goes, a lot of water has passed under the bridge..oops I've gone and said the 'b' word yet again. lol (you're not laughing though are you?)

Full marks for having a go at Picasso style. The colours are good and I can see the jug and candlestick connection. The longer you look the more you see !

Well it’s very well painted but I am with Paul Dixie on this, umm what is it? I know of Picasso,s work but never quite understood it, I am really sorry Fiona but this is no reflection on you as I have always said you are talented perhaps I am a bit old fashioned! 🥴🤔😢🙁

Wow Dennis……for seventy quid you can have the whole lot! 😂 I’ll message you, thank you x Val and Carol, I’m not a fan of Picasso either really, and by choice I wouldn’t have chosen his work to study. But I’m glad I’ve had a go for the art class, it’s been a challenge for me as I have no imagination at all and I think that puts my ability a step or two behind. Thank you both for your lovely comments. Lol….Louise I can still remember vividly which painting started my bridge aversion, it was the one with the Heather banks and it took me three of four attempts after everyone’s help and advice. That must be ten/eleven years ago! Blimey! There was a great camaraderie on the gallery then with lots of dialogue. I’m okay, I’ve booked a therapy session…..😂🤪

Richard, thank you for your comment, I’m not a fan. It’s an Art Deco glass candlestick with candle. William, I wouldn’t be painting in this style by choice, it’s a lesson in my art class. We’ve studied Monet, Cezanne, Matisse and now Picasso, not sure who the next one is. Thank you very much for your lovely, kind words.

I remember the 'Bridge' or should I say your 'Bridge' well Fiona but can hardly believe it was that long ago. I still smile when I remember your struggle and I'm so sorry that you're still needing therapy. Hopefully your therapist won't suggest you paint yet another one. I wouldn't if I was you unless it was Picasso style. There again, people might not know what it was. (I would of course) :)

Now this is something to get your head around and I think you've done an excellent job Fiona. It must be quite difficult I should think. The colours are interesting too.

Sorry Fiona it was not a criticism in any way it’s just my ignorance and I take my hat of to you for having a go! ❤️👍

Really excellent Fiona

Definitely a Picaso. Lovely work Fiona expertly done.

Louise for a bit of self inflicted torture I looked back to see when it was….ALL THREE attempts where painted in 2011! I might surprise you with a Picasso style bridge, if I can stop my hand from shaking…lol. Thank you Diane, I think I spent 10 minutes thinking time before applying one stroke of paint. The think times is longer than the painting time! William, no apologies required…..I finished it today….yippee! David P and David J…..thank you very much gentlemen for your lovely encouraging comments.

Fiona - I love the colours and the shapes in this - I find it quite calming to look at!

Rachel thank you. I finished it today, will post sometime in the week. I found it less than calming to paint!

Excellent Fiona - a real statement work - I could see this on a wall and it would look great.

Thank you very much Shaun! Hubby has requested it be framed, it’s finished now, this is the halfway stage.

16”x14” oil on canvas board. Last weeks art class was the first of a two week study into the style and works of Picasso. I wasn’t looking forward to this as I knew I would find it difficult….and it’s proving so! I started with a mid tone of transparent red oxide and when dry I lifted out the lighter areas with a turpsy rag. This drawing was the foundation and starting point. Decided to use a range of greens predominantly, from blue greens to yellow greens. Is the object recognisable?
