Well done , I thought this was one of Alan's

You're back with a good one even though it is too early for snow. It's only paper! Love the colours used.

Alan is a great encourager - and you've learned well at this hands! I especially like your sky - I find it VERY difficult to get this kind of light, airy softness in watercolour.

Love it - could happily have it on my wall.

now then lovely Fiona,, its a lot better than his .. well I think it is anyway. its beautiful

Back with a vengeance, Fiona! This is one of your best. Yes, I too love the sky, but I also like the progression, (if that's the word I want), from that beautiful line of trees in the background, forward to the ones on the far left, then to the house itself and finally to the shrubs in the foreground. All the tones exactly right, (IMHO). It's just lovely. Yes, this must be the beginning. Keep 'em coming! xx

Very good Fiona. 6 months and no painting is too long, they'll be no stopping you now!

Seems you have overcome your fear, bit the bullet and as a result, you have produced a very nice scene and overall painting. Steps should be easier for you from now on.

Super watercolour painting Fiona, great to see you back amongst us! And hopefully you are back amongst us, lovely simple watercolour that belies the effort and angst that will have accompanied your rendering of it, love the snow and tufts of grass and the hedge and everything beyond as well

Yes back with a bang! lovely work Fiona.

Beautifully balanced and charming. I thought I was clicking onto one of Alan's :-)

Yes, a bit early for snow, but it is a super watercolour.

Welcome back Fiona! Walking, staring and swearing must have done you good if the result is this absolutely charming and beautiful watercolour. The sky is wonderful , the snow crisp and fluffy and the overall atmosphere very calm. Well done!

Oh I have missed you all! With all the support and encouragement you have given me, I can't help but get over my rather dry period of painting. A big thanks to Alan and Lionel for sharing their knowledge. Thank you everyone, very much appreciated.

Beautiful little watercolour. Keep 'em coming. Nice encouraging comment from Allan. I'm ashamed to say it's been longer than that for me Fiona!! I have a 'painter;s block' and can't think of a single thing I fancy painting!! Jx

'I hope this is the beginning' you say. A great beginning I would say. Now lets have more please. Endorsed by the great Alan too. Well done

Welcome back, Fiona! It's really good to see you posting again, and you certainly made a statement with this piece. Love the subtle merging of washes for the sky and the very vibrant middle ground. Superb execution!

Lovely to see you back Fiona :) Hope that this is the start of a very prolific painting time. I like the delicate colours here and lovely scene!

Jean, I know how you are feeling, my worst thought was failing miserably with the first try then I would be on a downward slope. The longer I left it the worse I felt about doing it. After doing this one yesterday, I've done three today, all very different but loose and simple to start with. Thank you for your lovely comment and good luck!

Thank you very much Chris, Seok and Sarah for your lovely comments, much appreciated.

Great work. Sometimes just to put a mark on a piece of white is the beginning of a great journey. It doesn't have to be relevant but it stops it being a scary piece of blank paper.

Fiona, I like the way you've brought depth to the picture which is difficult with snow scenes. A famous anecdote of Winston Churchill's early attempts go along the lines of he was staring at a white canvas terrified of adding paint when a lady friend snatched the brush from his hand a nod daubed paint on his precious canvas saying Whinny just get on with it, it's only paint. Even the best of us struggle at times. Stevan

A lovely atmospheric painting with a super sky. So glad you picked your brush up. Have more confidence in your own unique abilities as you have talent to spare.

Ah Fiona this is lovely, especially the icy mist enshrouded trees - I love it. I am very encouraged to hear that you've been struggling to paint for the past 6 months! I haven't painted since May. Kind of frozen to the spot and trying to trust that there is A Process going on inside! Very well done on something shifting for you.

Beautifully done - encourages me to concentrate on winter scenes for my next workshop at the beginning of next month when I have been asked to do a Christmas card type subject.

I like your works fiona,bravo!

Brilliant Fiona, another one please.

I have missed your lovely colours Fiona, this is beautiful.

It was worth the wait Fiona, recognise your style and it is a beautiful fresh watercolour. More please!

Thank you very much Dawn, Stevan, Thea for your kind and generous comments. It's difficult to explain the fear of putting those first brush marks on the paper......I think it's more the fear of failiure, if the first one after so long, doesn't turn out how you expect it. Thanks again.

Caroline, I'm encouraged to know that I'm not the only one! I wanted to paint but didn't know where to start. It was looking through Alan's gallery that did it for me. Good luck and thank you.

Many thanks Michael, Tarek, Karyl, Carole and Glennis you are all very kind.

Ahh Fiona, so nice to see one of your lovely loose watercolours after a long break. A super winter scene that really gives a feeling of the cold but I hope we don't see snow for a while yet :) PS Three rolls of wallpaper are on their way lol

This is super Fiona. I really wouldn't have been surprised to see Alans signature at bottom. Well done. Oh, and you are def not the only one struggling to start a painting. Before today, Ive submitted just one painting since July. Tried three others but they havent worked out well which makes me hesitate before starting another. I've managed to get one finished today so maybe we will both be a bit more productive before Christmas!

Val, looking forward to the arrival of the wallpaper...I have just the wall for it! Thank you for looking. Paul, I've just commented on your posting and I think you will have no problems adding to your gallery from now on. You mentioned Christmas in your comment, how about designing this years Christmas card? Thank you for your comment and encouragement.

This is brilliant! I can’t find a bad thing to say about it, nothing is overworked and the colours are beautiful! See you are talented I keep telling you.😊

My first (grown up) watercolour for at least six months...well I can't take all the credit because this is by kind permission of my mentor, our very own Alan Owen. I have walked past, stared at, and even sworn at, a single sheet of watercolour paper for at least three days......why is it so scary?! I hope, this is the beginning........again. Arches paper and Old Holland watercolours; C. blue, L. red, B.sienna, B. umber and a touch here and there of U. marine. Thanks for looking.
