Alan Bickley’s Bonus Feature...exercise. by Fiona Phipps

Love everything about this one, Fiona - composition, colours and textures. Great sky.

Thank you Jenny. The composition is all Alan’s doing, the colours, I did have to improvise on as I don’t have some of the colours that Alan specified. The textures are probably down to this being about the third painting on this particular board! Lol The scumbling is all mine though!

Really good Fiona

Oh that’s lovely, Fiona!

This is great, Fiona. Great colour palette!

I love this FIona.

Alan should be pleased to see how you've taken up his example - I like the lively effect you've got here; and you've chosen a good teacher.

Nice work, Fiona!

Oh yes, I remember doing this one, it’s the Wrekin in Shropshire based on my sketchbook drawings. Really good effort Fiona, you’ve actually done a damn good job, not that I’m surprised in any way by that. I’m pleased that my WIP was of some help to you.

I don't know much about oil painting, it is something I want to try. I think your painting is really good.

Love the palette you have used. I’ve not really looked at the Tips and Techniques until I saw this, I may have to try some of the exercises.

Many thanks everyone for your lovely feedback. All credit to Alan for his excellent WIP work, with concise and clear instructions. It has kick started what I call my oil season....Winter, just need good weather to get out to do it!

This is so appealing in every way Fiona. Love the way you have used colour, texture and distance. This is so alive and singing.

Very nice, lovely colours

It looks very good and I love your colour choices, well done for trying something new to you.

Love it, Fiona! I know the Wrekin, this describes it well!

Spectacular, Fiona. I love the muted colours and the atmosphere in your painting. Nice thick wodges of paint.

Super Fiona in every way

Great colour harmony and texture Fiona.

Beautiful palette and impressionist painting Fiona.

What is there to say Fiona , a really good job!!

As I have said before you can put your hand to anything when it comes to art, this is fabulous the sought of uncluttered scene I like. I have tried oils but struggled with the fumes and drying times, I have even tried the water based oils but the were not very good to use but I do wish I could paint in oils as well as watercolour 😩. You are gifted!

I think it’s all been said, Fiona. I love it.

Thank you so much for your feedback and encouragement......I hope I can go on from Alan’s demo and produce something okay, by myself! Thanks again Alan for the help.

Thank you Dennis!

Thanks Sandra!

14”x12” oil on canvas board. I saw Alan’s bonus feature demo about scumbling and thought I would have a go, I haven’t used this technique before. With my usual oil art class cancelled for the autumn and winter term because of you know what, I will be depending on the sites oil painters and Alan for advice and demo’s......just to warn you! I don’t think I’ve been very confident in applying enough dryer, stiffer paint to glaze but I’m sure I’ll be more confident the next time. Thanks Alan!
