Galloway Hills looking North....(17)

Edging ever nearer, Fiona, this is an "artathon". My husband aims to complete 3000 cycle miles by the end of the year.

A very nice sketch, Fiona! Lovely to have that country view.

Marvellous, I would love a view like this

Well captured and some rather good line work F...

Marjorie I’ve got 35 days left, if I manage to post a painting/sketch etc every two days I will make it. Of course I need to produce said painting! I have lots of rubbish I could make the numbers up with but as Alan B said I shouldn’t post quantity over quality.....he’s right, as always. Thanks for you gee-up and the title ‘artathon’, appreciate it. Good luck to your husband with his 3000 miles, my challenge is easy compared.

Anne, Hilary, Alan thank you very much for the boost! 👍

Thank you Michael. Yes don’t the hills and mountains look beautiful when capped with snow, especially, as they are today backed by clear blue sky. I can even make out the summit of The Merrick which is, I think, the highest of the Galloway hills. It’s so clear!

Come and look at my garden! It's like a jungle and a ploughed field all in one! Very inspiring. Nice sketchy feel to this one Fiona. Have you used pastel pencil or watercolour crayon? HNY for 2021 Fiona. John

Very expressive marks Fiona, love it.

Thank you John, a Happy New Year to you too! I’ve used a fairly hard charcoal pencil for the tree, wall and outline of the trees on the hills and the hills themselves. Smudged some soft pastel in the sky, around the tree and foreground then used a couple of ‘woodies’ which are stumpy wax/watercolour crayon to make the marks in the sky, hills, foreground etc.

Thank you Sylvie, appreciate your comment.

One of the things I like about this sketch apart from the overall quality is the lines of rhythm you have achieved from the tops of the hills to the middle distance and into the foreground.

Love the foreground marks.

It's all been said. What a fine confident sketch.

A lovely, lively expressive sketch Fiona, you are lucky to have such beautiful scenery on your doorstep!

John, thank you very much for that, it was a bit rushed. I’m working on another version from this sketch. Diane, Lewis, Christine many thanks for your lovely comments. I’m very lucky to have wonderful, uninterrupted....apart from a few trees.....views around were I live.

A fair bit of Snow in Stockport today but without that lovely aspect but nonetheless very pretty at first, It can go now !! Excellent posting Fiona.

Good lively sketch Fiona.

Really nice sketch Fiona, an expressive piece and a great view for a composition . The cold atmosphere generated in your piece works very well . Like this a lot .

Great sketch Fiona, very expressive. happy new year.

Love the spontaneity of your work Fiona and it captures a wild Winter in your part of the world. Nice.

Richard, I’m jealous that you’ve got snow. We only have it on the hills and down to the tree line, I think it’s because we are near the sea. Thank you. Sandra thank you very much. Many thanks Graham, you always give such encouraging feedback, which I appreciate very much. I nearly didn’t post this, I thought it was rough! Thank you Charles, you are very kind. Willie I’m very grateful for you smashing comment.

Super quick sketch which you have to do when sketching in snow, how lovely. Nice composition, should work well as a painting. Very envious!!!

Yes, quality over quantity. I have witnessed some people abandoning this in an attempt to produce quantity as opposed to quality. Deeply disappointing and sad to see ....

Thank you David for your words of encouragement much appreciated. Marjorie came up with the title Gudrun, my attempt at posting a thousand paintings in ten years on the gallery. I posted my first on 3/02/11....15 to go! Thank you for your interest.

Great sketch Fiona! A scene of wind lashed trees. Happy 2021.

Thank you Sarah, wishing you the very best for 2021.
