wow, very good, i would never ever attempt at real life drawings of people like this, but you have achieved a really good result :-)

Definitely finished - it would be a crying shame to add any more to what is already perfect. Inspired work.

Another fantastic portrait Duncan, I agree with Thea, definitely finished!

Good morning Duncan. I was hoping to see some more of your wonderful paintings! Lovely. I like the fact you have used the support in the finished article.

Don't touch it is wonderful. Your sitter exudes experience and age (as in wisdom) in your portrait.

Thank you all for these encouraging comments. I've not been able to do very much painting at all for the last couple of months, but this one enabled me to get my hand in again. Dave was a great subject, and it is so much easier to produce something decent when you have such character in front of you.

Very simply done, brilliantly effective

Yes, leave it alone, it's finished. The arms and hands are brilliantly done and represent the character of your sitter almost as much as the portrait of his head, if that makes any sense at all. You've done just enough, and don't need a single stroke more.

Oh this is brilliant. Don't do any more.

Absolutely wonderful Duncan!

This is super. Less is more.

Thanks for these lovely comments. They are not only encouraging but very helpful, in that the concensus clearly is that this is a 'finished' work. It is normally time that dictates when I stop (as in this case), but maybe that is no bad thing - some of my earlier stuff was spoiled by fiddling around with it after the model had gone. Many thanks.

I am mostly admiring your skill of less is more...with great effect!!

Unison Pastel on Mi-Teintes Touch. This is Dave, a splendid chap who sat motionless for over 2 hours whilst we all delighted in the way his bulk was absorbed by the wicker chair and his chin by that wonderful beard. I think this is 'finished', although much of the support is uncoloured.
