I like it Dixie, a fine rendition of a rusty old car. As ever, you're the first person it has to please, but very few of us are completely satisfied with what we done...that's all part of this art lark. I agree with what was said on the forum. As Martin said, it's good, now move on to the next.

Well I think it's a terrific painting Paul, certainly does 'what it says on the tin!'

Thanks Lew for your kind and appreciated comment.

Agree with Lewis, a fine painting of a rusty old car - and the way you’ve cropped it is just right. Love the pale blue against the colours of the rust. Don’t be disappointed, it’s turned out well despite your misgivings.

Russell and Jenny thank you for your encouraging words.

Looks pretty darn good to me Dixie, and I like the cropped version which makes the car itself stand out as the main object. Also I like the number plate!

Super work on making the car look bashed. Must have been quite a challenge in watercolour but you have produced an excellent painting Paul.

Think it looks great Paul! We're always our own worst critics but you've definitely captured the character of the old car.

I'm glad you posted this, there's lots to like and admire, not least the colour palette, some tricky perspectives and that lovely rustiness.

Tessa, Carole, Hilary and Heather thank you so much for your very kind words they are very encouraging. When something doesn’t go quite to plan an we condemn it totally , through the kind words bringing good point to my attention I see it slightly different now accepting that it has some good bit to it . Thank you all both here and on the forum .

Turned out brilliantly Paul….Hope you have the starting handle.

Don't be disappointed Dixie, it's the imperfections (that none of the rest of us notice) that makes paintings interesting.

I really like it Paul. It is full of character with great colours and well painted.

A lovely watercolour - colours are great and you wouldn't notice any issue with the background.

I love your old car, Paul - it's so well done and an amusing title too!

I have missed your paintings and this one doesn't disappoint. I love the colours you use!

Nothing wrong with this! It’s a real character. I especially like your choice of colours Paul.

I love the rusty old car Dixie, I think you are to cars what I am to boats! Very atmospheric and you've caught the passing of time on this car beautifully.

Super painting Paul.

Well drawn and good rusty texture Paul.

Great painting Paul.

Thank you all for your kind comments and encouragement I appreciated it.

Excellent painting Paul and well cropped.

You shouldn't be disappointed with this - it's brilliant! That old car has so much character.

It's an excellent painting of a lovely old car you have captured really well Paul

Watercolour of an abandoned car, a much cropped version due to messing up the background explanation on the forum. It’s not what I intended and didn’t think to put it on the gallery initially as I’m disappointed with it . It’s no what I had in mind and due to school boy errors I needed to change it drastically. Posted as very kind comments persuaded me it looks ok , mmmm not convinced .

About the Artist
Paul (Dixie) Dean

I have sketched most of my life on and off I became interested in watercolour following a spinal injury whilst in hospital but did not follow it up. My eldest daughter bought me a beautiful wooden box set of half pans about twenty five years ago I dabbled on and off until retirement twelve years…
