Very well painted Paul, you've handled the water beautifully.

I’ve waited till you put this on the gallery…..it’s a lovely result with the sunlight coming through the trees and the cool fresh feel of the woodland waterfall. One of your best Paul. I really do like that water!

Excellent work Dixie. Love the palette

An exceptional job here Paul, definitely one of your best … to date!

George, Marjorie, Martin and Alan , thank you for your very kind comments, it was worth the struggle and effort in the heat to get such comments from you all.

The hard part was getting the undercut to look as if it was deep under the overhang, think it worked out.

Oh, how beautifully the forest turned out! It's an honor that it was named after me, I'm so happy! I really like these contrasts: the delicate speckles, the expressive waterfall steps with their tangled roots, the rushing water versus the still, soft riverbed, from the brightest light to the deepest darkness. It's truly fantastic!! It's the perfect forest for Galadriel.🌳

Oh wow Paul this is amazing, love it !!!

Excellent woodland painting, the water is really good.

A cracker Paul. Right up there among your best work.

Excellent work Paul.

Like this a lot Paul

I think they've said it all, but never reluctant to shove my oar in, here goes. The one thing that bothered me a bit when you showed this on the forum was the area to the right: my faith that you'd get it right in the end has more than paid off, because you've enlivened it without distracting from your focal point; and I agree with those who are saying this is one of your best.

This has worked so well, Paul, especially the waterfall with the contrast of dark and light tones

Excellent work, Dixie. Can see more of the detail, here, in the gallery.

Excellent work Paul.

Thank you all for such lovely comments I appreciate each one. I went in dark Robert , with the intention of lightening it to suit the mood of the painting, find it easier to do it this way rather than darkening it in stages , bit of clean water works wonders. I have enjoyed working on this scene despite the heat and discomfort, something positive to focus on certainly helps.

This is beautiful, Paul! Love how you have painted the movement in the water!!

I can only concur with everyone who has already commented Paul, it’s a terrific painting!

Yes, I agree, this one of your best Paul. Love everything about it.

Delightful

I agree with all the comments. So lovely, definitely one of your best!

Lovely, especially the waterfall.

Really good Paul, love the way you’ve captured the water.

Many thank to you all for the lovely encouraging comments, they are really appreciated .

Sorry spell check Thank you guys .

I think the water is superbly done Paul, a lovely painting.

Beautifully painted Paul, I especially like the energy in the tumbling water.

Thank you Sandra, I was concerned about how it would look , not an easy thing to replicate.

Watercolour of an imaginary scene set in woodland, scenes like this can be found in the woodland, havens of shaded areas , The process of painting this is on the forum as a wip , struggled with the heat as I dried the paint so quickly. Set it up as a challenge as I find moving water difficult to do.

About the Artist

I have sketched most of my life on and off I became interested in watercolour following a spinal injury whilst in hospital but did not follow it up. My eldest daughter bought me a beautiful wooden box set of half pans about twenty five years ago I dabbled on and off until retirement twelve years…
