It's really ethereal, very nicely painted.

I have been trying to work out how to do mist. Tou have done it beautifully.

Super misty effect, well done.

Cracking misty scene with the bulk of the cathedral in the background, and I love that heron!

Very evocative Paul and very well painted!

Michael, Heather, Cathy, Sylvia, Stephen Tessa, and Sarah thank you for you very kind and encouraging comments. I’ve had this painting in mind for several years but never seem to have the inspiration to get it done , it’s really down to reading the book and then looking at photos of the areas . Thank you to all those photographers who uploaded such amazing photos.

This is pretty damn good Paul, well captured atmosphere…

I used to live not far away, in Cambridge and you really have caught the feel an atmosphere of the fens.

Thank you Tony I appreciate you taking the time to look and comment. You might find the book The Fens by Francis Pryor interesting as you already know the area, it’s really well written.

Beautiful misty look Paul 😍

Thank you Martin , I must give credit to all the photographers who’s wonderfully images I looked at before doing this , they without doubt gave me the inspiration and idea .

A beautiful example of mist Paul, and I love the ghostly castle.

Excellent painting Paul! You’ve done a marvellous job of the mist, and the way the Cathedral rises from it. I love Ely, visited it a lot when I lived in the Fens…..very good antique shops! Old name, the aisle of Eels.

Thanks Fiona , yes it was call the Isle of Eels , I love the whole area flat but such big beautiful sky's due to the lack of hills .

I love the mistiness in front of the cathedral and the heron in the centre of the painting. Beautiful!

Many thanks Carol and Spencer for you comments I appreciate them.

Thank you Alan I appreciate you taking the time to look and comment.

A4 watercolour on Bockingford rough paper. Inspired from several sources I’m currently reading a book about the history of the Fens by Francis Prior I live in and around the area for ten years when serving in the RAF. For two years I traveled once or twice a week to the RAF Hospital at Ely for treatment , it was often misty and the cathedral stood out miles away. I used the shape of the building from online photos and made up some of the foreground. Know as The isle of Ely it does seems to be an island.
