Great job, Paul - it’s all the rigging detail that pulls it together so well.

Good work Paul. I like the way you’ve painted the distant boats.

Excellent painting Paul.

Jenny, Lew and Stephen thank you for your kind comments they are appreciated.

A super foreground boat with very interesting detail Peter. A great balance with the background boats and pier.

How you get it all so straight with the rigging is just beautiful. Such detail 👌

Excellent work, Paul!

Thank you Carole , Jen and Anne I appreciate your comment.

Another really beautiful painting, love it !!

The active water adds something to what's happening here, adding to the challenges those boats are facing. Really like the shapes, too.

Another great watercolour Paul.

Good work Paul.

Russell, Valerie, Gerry , George and Denise thank you I appreciate your comments.

I’m genuinely impressed Paul - a powerful painting of a tricky subject!

To add… the way you’ve represented that sea is nothing short of brilliant…

Alan thank you for your comments, I appreciate your feedback. I was unsure of the sea and decided to add the white to break up the blue and represent the sea outside the harbour meet the calmer waters , I think this area is known as the Bar in nautical terms.

Love it, wonderful detail, and very interesting history too.

Paul, this is impressive!

This is really good Paul and, yes, that rigging makes the whole painting zing

Sandra, Diane and Heather thank you for your comments they are appreciated.

I think this is really excellent Paul. Some super details and I love the sails and the rigging.

Robert thank you for your comment I really appreciate it . I thoroughly enjoyed doing this painting, and I do think if we know the subject matter we produce better work .

Absolutely superb, Paul! Definitely one of your best!

Sorry Paul I completely missed this- But it really caught my eye, plenty of movement in it and love the way you have depicted the Red in the painting. Lovely

Paul this has to be the best painting you have ever painted! The sea is full of movement , beautiful! Thanks for explaining the strip of white where the rough sea and calm water meet. The. Choir that I sing with has sung a beautifully song Crossing the Bar which is about dying at se and going to heaven It makes sense to me knowing it represents going from rough seas and into the calm .

Thank you Gillian, glad it helped to explain the song , often we use term that come from thing like the sea, military, farming etc in our daily conversation without knowing where it originated.

A3 watercolour of a steam tug assisting a sailing barge , the barge is flying two black balls one above the other to signal that it has lost manoeuvrability. This signal is used when a ship looses power due to engine failure or steering failure as would be the care here . Use an old faded sepia photo and added the background etc , full description on the WIP on the forum .
