The different stages of the painting are on the forum under Work In Progress.

I like it very much.

The topic here is just that of the Fighting Temeraire! I like the use of the yellow, Paul, it gives everything a glow.

An attractive piece Paul. I like the early morning glow!

Lots of interest in this piece Paul.

Very well painted Paul. I watched it's progress on the Forum.

Excellent painting Paul.

This is lovely Paul- love the flash of yellow as the sun sets

Thank you all for your very kind comments, I’m pleased with the result but a little disappointed as the reds haven’t picked up so well when I posted it unfortunately. It’s a little more red and purple in the actual painting but given how a camera picks up the colour and poor natural light today it’s bound to happen. We are never fully satisfied are we it must be a requirement for use who love to dabble with paints .

Great painting Paul, sad to see these vessels going for scrap.

Your boat paintings are always full of interesting stories. Love everything about this Paul.

Spencer, Chris and Carole thank you for your kind comments. I believe that a painting should tell a story or part of a story so that the viewer can ad to it themselves by imagining what my happen later .

Your boats are really good Paul and I love the sky and detail. Sad that so many ships went that way. It's quite nice seeing those at the end of their working life being moored up and used as restaurants - I've seen quite a few about.

Plenty to look at Paul and some lovely colours in the sky.

Loved watching its progress under WIP, and really like the finished painting. The interesting background as much as the boats. Great colours.

Sarah ,Denise and Sandra tank you for you kind comments.

Always love your boat paintings and this has a lot going on to interest the eye

Well painted Paul. I like the early morning glow you’ve achieved.

Love it. Can really feel the tug boat pulling along.

Spotted this on the top banner…great overall atmosphere with the yellow underpainting setting the scene - and greatly appreciated by many members which is always encouraging!

Love this, Paul.

I missed this Paul. It’s a wonderful rich mix of time and history. Great palette!

Thank you all for your kind and encouraging words.

I can see lots has gone into this painting Paul and it's very effective and interesting. I really like the colours as well as the detail.

Thank you Diane for you kind comment.

This is one of my absolute favorites - I like it so much! Your ships come to life, they tell their life story. It almost seems as if the boat is smiling wearily and wants to say: OK, it is what it is - I served and did my best. It makes me nostalgic...

Tanja thank you for your lovely comment I do appreciate it . I do get quite sentimental about these old ships , cars and other thing that have come to the end of a useful life, but who decides that it’s no longer useful.

Watercolour on A3 paper of an old tramp steamer on its last trip sadly to the ship breaker yard . These old ship worked for years up and done the cost carrying and cargo the could get often it was cargo no one else’s wanted to move . The background is very loosely based on Wapping in the 1950s but with quite a bit of artistic license, chose early morning as they would have move the ship before the seal lanes became busy . This is an imaginary scene that took place quite regularly around the 1950s .

About the Artist

I have sketched most of my life on and off I became interested in watercolour following a spinal injury whilst in hospital but did not follow it up. My eldest daughter bought me a beautiful wooden box set of half pans about twenty five years ago I dabbled on and off until retirement twelve years…
