I really like this Paul, lovely composition

Like that a lot - the detail of the tug is very good!

Always like these boats

Good work Paul. The sea around Liverpool docks surely isn't blue, more muddy brown most days. Yours is fine.

Neil, David , Heather and Jim thank you for your comments, much appreciated. I did look at some photos Jim and they did indeed show the sea and river a brown colour, I painted one brown years ago and had a bit of a ear bashing due to the sea colours. I find the watery brown a bit difficult to do , unless I don’t want it then it just appears.

Another very good boat watercolour.

Great work Paul. Your really good at your boats.

David and Faye thank you for your comments they are appreciated.

Love these grand old tugs.

This is great Paul. I like the way you have used brighter colours on your tugboat and left the background in more subdued tones.

Many thanks Michael, Lew and Spencer for taking the time to comment.

Back to the super vintage Paul ! You have certainly captured the murky weather and to me the sea looks ok but when I dud watercolour some time ago I never could "master" painting water !

Very good Dixie, nice composition with the socks in the background.

Thank you Richard , I find the sea difficult every time, but then it looks so different every time you look at it. Thank you Tessa, you have excellent eye sights I did not notice the socks out to dry , must be getting forgetful can’t remember painting them , give us a clue, what colour are they. Sorry could not help the mischief.

Nicely done Paul and good information as always. Good detail with your tug too.

Thanks for taking the time to look and comment Chris.

Love the stormy sky and the boat very much

Romila and Chris thank you for taking the time to comment.

To be able to paint and to get such enjoyment from it is a wonderful thing! We all feel that on here. And we are all so different in what we like- but we all have one thing in common, we love to paint/ draw/ sketch. I can sense your enjoyment in this painting, Paul. It’s got “presence”.

Nah the Mersey is NEVER blue , in my day if you were daft enough to fall in you had your stomach pumped out. A wee bit better nowadays I think the odd fish is even caught in it, I wouldn’t eat it though.lovely pic Paul and good memories, I had a friend who was a Mersey pilot sadly no longer with us or I would have asked him if there really was an Ocean Cock ?

I also like the industrial activity in the background

Thank you Marjorie, Sylvia and Neil for your lovely comments. I agree with you one hundred percent Marjorie, I just love to see the work on the gallery it’s so interesting to see and find out how it’s done etc. Sylvia there was a company called Cock Tugs asked in Liverpool , don’t google that I got a shock with the response. All their tugs had were named Cock , Atlantic Cock, Peacock etc , there are some really good old photos on line some are b&w and I needed to research their colours and logo in the past .

Full of detail & interest.

I like your painitng Paul especially the detail of the masts and rigging.

Super tug Paul and great composition. Very topical with two storms on the way this week!

Good angle Paul, the boat is set away well from your faded background

Thank you Diane, Christine and Frank for you kind comments.

Smashing painting Paul. The Mersey is now one of the cleanest rivers. It is brown due to the very fast current continually kicking up the silt and sand. Dolphins, Minke Whales and a host of marine life are often spotted there now.

Thank you Denise for your kind comment, I did read about the abundance of sea life in the Mersey area.

An excellent tug, Paul!

What I like about your painting is how you have got the background buildings etc, there but not there and the more you look beyond the boat the more you see. Gives me something to aspire to for sure.

Thank you Anne and Denise for your very kind comments. I have tried to imagine what it might look like in poor visibility Denise, if you look towards the shore things come in and out of focus due to the light etc I wanted the boats to be the focus of the view.

Excellent work Paul!

Fantastic details in the boat Dixie, lovely watercolour

Anjana thank you for taking the time to look and comment it’s appreciated.

A super painting, very evocative and well composed.

A3 watercolour of a Liverpool tug , set early morning as it heads out for the first job of the day . Thought I would bring in the all important shipping weather forecast, hence the title. Attempted to get a dirty weather look in the distant sky over the docks, I had a lot of problems with the sea, picked up the wrong blue and the needed to fiddle with it, not sure it’s worked

I have sketched most of my life on and off I became interested in watercolour following a spinal injury whilst in hospital but did not follow it up. My eldest daughter bought me a beautiful wooden box set of half pans about twenty five years ago I dabbled on and off until retirement twelve years…
