Love the sky and the mist

Lovely, great atmosphere

Thank you Heather and Hilary for your kind comments, the birds you see around the summit are Red Kites which are often seen there and the white line going up the mountain is called the heather terrace which is the way a lot of walkers climb the mountain.

Beautiful scenery, David. Love the colours in the sky.

Great colours and nice to have the information on blending, I love using Payne's grey although some people seem to condemn it. 😀

Beautiful David, and interesting to know your method. Always learning!

Linda, yes it is a vey useful colour as it is made from three pigments which sometimes come out. You can add Raw Sienna to make a good colour for say river water or add winsor blue to make an angry sky.

I think the artist who say don`t use it as they might only be saying for shadows as you probably know black shadows can kill a painting. The only shadow i would use it on is say on a grey path!!!

A beautiful painting and beautifully painted.

It’s a mountain I know well, as ever yet another beautiful watercolour by your talented hand

Such a majestic scene David, achieved with your wonderful application of colour and skill. Thank you for sharing your method. This makes me want to get my watercolours, it is so inspirational.

Lovely painting- great sky and mist. So interesting to read your comments.

So glad everyone its inspiring, unfortunately Liz and I don`t teach anymore, but we always like to help if we can by this super website.

Thank you everyone for your kind comments

Fabulous effects in your sky David and thank you for sharing the information about your process. A beautiful scene, love everything about it.....soft and hard edges and all that granulation...scrummy.

This is a beautiful painting, David. You have created such a wonderful dramatic effect!

I like this painting, David. The lighting is well caught and as I remember when I visited this area. We rarely see this kind of atmosphere in the Swiss Alps that I paint. A lovely job. We have red kites almost as much as sparrows but in the hills over 1000 m we get more buzzards and eagles.

Thank you Keith, I enjoyed your gallery Their are very few Artists who are great at Landscapes, portraiture and still life, you are one of them.

20" x 16" watercolour. This view is from a small lane that comes from the A5. For the sky i used first R Sienna and Light R and a weak French U and while that was wet i brushed in Paynes Grey. It is some times nice to play off staining colours ( Paynes Grey) against granulating colours (French Ultra). Winsor Newton Paynes Grey is staining and so has a smooth finish whereas French Ultra from Maimeri granulates beautifully. Tryfan was painted with RS, FU and Brown M, other colours LY
