I used French Ultra in the river. The sky was Naples Yellow followed by a mix of French Ultra + Cad Red and the distant trees dropped in as the sky was going off. This was painted in our studio when we lived in Blaenau some years ago

A fabulous use of colour in this lovely watercolour David

That looks quite magical!!

Very impressive painting.

Beautifully painted David , thank you for the information re paint used etc.

A fantastic, very colourful painting, David. Beautiful scenery.

A fab pic David of our wonderful Wales.

Lovely atmospheric scene David. Reminds me a little of David Bellamy’s style.

Yes Stephen, a lot of people say that. I have known Jenny and David for over 30 years and went on his courses when i was learning watercolour among other artists. It is a good idea to go on artists courses who you like there style.

Superb painting and pallette.

Thank you everyone for your very kind comments

Absolutely stunning. Thank you for the explanation of the colours. I like the idea of negative painting. Must try it.

So beautifully painted David……gorgeous loose washes and fine detail in the areas where it counts.

Watercolour 22" x 14" on Rough Saunders paper. This scene is near the A496 about a mile south of Blaenau , the river comes down from the slate mines. Lots of negative painting in this painting showing up light elements infront of dark ones. This can add interest to paintings and variety.
