Who wouldn't like this beauty. Stunning Brian, and a decent size which will create impact galore.

Hey Brian superb work and he's gotta love this beauty

Your cousin will be absolutely delighted with this wonderful present Bri. It is gorgeous! I love the touch of pink in the sky and your waves are just right, I feel I want to have a paddle in that lovely water.

Thank you very much indeed, Alan and Dennis, for the more than encouraging comments. Much appreciated, I can tell you. I used one of my own photos for this painting; actually, I used a few, to try and get the light right. The size does make a difference, Alan, that much is definitely true, and it kind of forces you to take a few steps back. Best to both Bri

Ah, we must have cross-posted, Margaret. Thank you so much for the kind comments. I've been biting my nails over this one because it's for someone else, something I'm not at all used to. I've given paintings away but this was a specific request. Consequently, I'm as pleased as a sandboy with the comments. *smile* Bri

I can feel the sea breeze Brian, such beautiful blues and the gull is perfect.

Thanks you very much, Carole, for the kind comments. Appreciated, as always. I seem to be forever painting gulls these days. My wife said, "Not another bird"! "Why the surprise"? I replied, "Now, if it had been an elephant"! *grin* Bri

I'm sure he will be really pleased with it Brian, its a lovely part of the British Isles and the North East coastline has some of the best scenery. You have captured the atmosphere and light really well.

Brilliant work, Brian.

I'm sure your cousin will be delighted with this great painting, Brian - like the colours and the gulls, especially the one in the foreground.

I think there will be tears from your cousin on the big day Brian. Not only a beautiful painted gift but a piece of shared history with memories galore for you both. He will love it!

Thank you very much indeed, Linda, Ronald and Maureen, for the very kind comments. Much appreciated. Linda! The North East Coast is one of the country's best kept secrets. The entire NE coast, right up to the Scottish border and beyond, is wonderful. Spoilt for choice, really. However, the sea is ice cold, like unbelievably, painfully cold. Surprisingly, some places are warmer than others. Sea Houses and Bamburgh, for example, are generally warmer than South Shields, and yet they're further north. You could never really describe the sea as warm, though. Very generous, Ronald. Thank you. I hope you're right, Maureen, and thanks for the nod towards the colours and gulls. Best to all Bri

Thanks for that, Fiona. Thank you very much. I hope you're right because he's the youngest of all the cousins (large extended family) and he's always been a favourite of mine. It helps that I love his mam, dad and brother enormously. We share the same surname and have the same grandparents on both sides. My dad's brother (Uncle Jim) fell in love with my mam's sister (Aunty Ann), when they met through may parents' courtship. So, two sisters married two brothers. Always raises an eyebrow or two when I mention it. lol Much appreciated comments, as always. Bri

How can he not like this Brian? Especially with the memories.

Thank you very much, Marjorie, for the very encouraging question. I'm feeling better about this now, and will leave it to dry, mainly because the party is the weekend after next. I'll have to stop adjusting this and that, as is my wont. Bri

Brian, I was brought up near Redcar, so I know how bracing that North East coast was, Saltburn was always one of our favourite spots and I do miss the seaside so it's always lovely to go back " home" every now and then 😀

I know Redcar and Saltburn of old, Linda, although it's been some years since I visited the area. A uni pal of mine lived in Redcar. I particularly remember Saltburn's imposing cliff and the great sweep of sand that filled the bay. Always a popular spot. Nice to hear about it all. Bri

Beautiful painting Bri, of course he liked it. Who wouldn't!

A great gift! Beautifully painted.

Thank you very much, Sandra and Margaret, for the kind comments. Appreciated. I'm not sure you'll get to read this reply because I'm a bit late getting to it, because I thought it had had its day. Best to both Bri

Oil on canvas 3ft x 3ft. Another large canvas of a late afternoon/early evening at South Shields main beach. The sun is dropping diagonally behind the left shoulder of the viewer as it heads for the Tyne. The coast faces north east, as the compass would have it, so the sun arcs over the beach on the diagonal. The main gull is a kittiwake, which are found all over the place during the breeding season. This is for my cousin, Chris, on his fiftieth birthday, as requested by his wife. Hope he likes it, but you just never know. He's from South Shields, btw, and used to swim from these rocks every summer as a child. I know because I was with him. LOL
