When a Robin Appears...
Acrylic 30x30cm. We rarely get snow in Cornwall, so to see this little robin perched on a snowy branch was a treat. He was very friendly- no doubt hoping for a crumb or two! In this painting, I tried to get the sense of distance with the background out of focus. I enjoyed observing & painting the abstract shapes and colours of the bark of the branches which I didn't notice at first glance. The textures and colours of the robin's plumage were built up in multiple layers using several sizes of brushes.
