A beauty and full of suggestions Alan.

Yes Oxford is a sketchers delight Alan, you have done a cracking job with this one.

Thanks guys, as always, I’ve cut everything down to the bare bones…

Assured sketching Alan. Love the minimal mark making and warmth of it

Beautifully done Alan.

Oxford is indeed a wonderful city and well portrayed here, especially with that little imaginative area of colour. A little adds so much.

Very impressive sketch, Alan.

Like this one a lot Alan, one of your best.

Your recent sketches of Oxford make me want to visit Alan….superb.

Very clever work Alan and love the subtle bit of colour, it just works!! Cracker!👌

Wonderful and am really liking your additional touches of colour

Heather - you'd think, wouldn't you, that a touch of colour in an otherwise monochrome work would look out of place and unconvincing; but Alan knows, crucially, WHAT colour to use, and where to place it. He also knows when to leave it alone - that's the difference decades of experience makes; plus that little touch that I imagine was always there of pure instinct. Drives yer mad, dunnit.....? Especially when I look in some of my own sketchbooks - in so many of them, I just see clumsiness and frustration.... very dangerous to compare oneself to the very best.

Thanks again, yes, a touch of the right colour can help to emphasise the focal point… simple but it works!

Surely one of your best Alan. I love everything about it , the tonal range the touches of colour and yhe addition of the figures and the bycycle.

I echo all the comments, lovely work!!

More intricate suits your style. Longevity as a well known artist is here to stay Alan

Brilliant. Morse would appreciate it.

Great sketch Alan with so much info and such minimal brush strokes. Very inspiring.

Fabulous work Alan I do love that sienna colour.

A wonderful street that draws the eyes seeking more Alan.

Marvellous sketch Alan, colour just where it's needed.

Consistently high quality sketches Alan - great detail.

I'm there in June, and seeing this I must take the sketchbook!

A wonderful city and worthy of a few sketchbook scribbles… pen and watercolour in my Stillman & Birn sketchbook.
