It’s a superb piece Alan , lovely old buildings captured in your loose sketch style look so good.

Terrific sketch Alan. For some reason when I paint houses I have a tendency to a. make the windows too big, and b. try and put in too much detail in the windows. The end result for me is a kind of naïve painting which you always manage to avoid.

Fabulous.

Well found and well drawn Alan, the touches of colour is a good addition.

Beautifully done Alan.

Those building's look so solid and convincing Alan.

Andrew is spot on!

Your sketches are always an invaluable lesson and this is no exception. Simply done but with apparent ease.

A great sketch, I like the tonal values and a little bit of subtle colour.

A masterful composition as always Alan.

Love your sketches and I love old buildings.

Great subject matter Alan……nice one.

Another beauty Alan, with great tonal differences and really good use of limited colour.

Love those strong shadows and stark lights. It amazes me how you produce so much detail with such limited markings Alan.

You're all too correct about them getting fewer each year: especially farm buildings, which are being torn down to be replaced by metal monstrosities - but I suppose farmers can't afford to be sentimental about Granfer's old barn.... Anyway, keep catching while you can; since few will be photographed or filmed, records such as yours will be a valuable historical resource: especially since, while you respond to their romantic appeal, you don't sentimentalize them.

I like the effect of light Alan.

Another great sketch, love the warm colour on the roofs.

I love how you have captured these buildings Alan - so much to enjoy as you look closer at the detail.

Fabulous sketch too Alan.

Such fabulous old buildings with character, impossible to resist getting it down on paper for later reference. They’re getting fewer each year! Pen and watercolour in my sketchbook.
