Always using some artistic license of course, such as inventing the shadows and I added the trees to give some height to the piece!

Beautifully done Alan.

Full marks Alan, nice piece.

Clean and simple. Good work

Like it, the shadows make all the difference !!

Ink wash or watercolour wash, I wonder - it doesn't matter, just of technical interest. I also wonder (I seem to do a lot of wondering...) if you ever use Chinese ink: I admit that I rarely do, because it's so much easier to use alternatives, but it does give a much softer result than the majority of black inks. However: a) another little gem, and what a good idea to get ideas from TV programmes; must try that; and b) I have yielded to your and other recommendations, and ordered a Stillman and Birn Delta sketchbook: I feel the need for a paper which will take a multiplicity of media.

Lovely sketch Alan!

Thanks guys, always appreciate the effort to comment… Robert, it’s lamp black watercolour washes, the line work has been done with a Rotring Ticky 0.20 and a Tombow brush pen (which is more of a felt tip), both have permanent ink of course! And no, I haven’t used Chinese ink…

Another wonderful “scribble”!

Love the subject and the way you have portrayed it, it’s great to see someone who can do these very quick sketches and execute them so well. For some reason I’m more attracted to sketches than some of artists finished work (Constable was superb and loved looking at his work in the National Gallery). You are very talented and thank you for your supportive comments on my work. 👍👍

So well drawn Alan

Another beauty Alan 😍

It’s a superb sketch Alan all the details needed and no wasted lines .

Great scribbly marks Alan, lively.

Lively yet tranquil, well sketched Alan

Perfect balance - that stroke to the right in the foreground completes it.

Love that confident ink work with no fiddling!

Lovely composition - a very good sketch!

Beautiful draughtsmanship, Alan, as always.

Your' inventions ' really work! Love it, Alan!

Great sketch with excellent tones Alan.

The shadows make it and give it depth, Brill!

Thanks again guys…. As you know by now, I’m always after strong tonal values, they are so important in creating the illusion of being three dimensional on a flat piece of paper!

Such an admirable, comprehensive, view with limited markings Alan. Very inspirational.

Excellent, as always, Alan.

This morning’s 20 minute scribble, in my ongoing quest or challenge to draw one-a-day in my sketchbook! Pen and wash in my Stillman & Birn Delta sketchbook 5.5x8.5in. Reference a photo taken from a tv programme, I get lots of my ideas this way!
