I love your simple watercolours Alan, they are such a perfect use of the medium.

A superb little painting Alan , I think watercolour lends itself to these type of paintings and particularly the skies done last minute. You have to know what you are doing , but they do seem to paint themselves with a little help from us .

Plenty of days like these at the moment Alan. Beautifully captured with so little effort! Or so you always make it seem.

I agree with Chris, simple and very good

A ten minute sketch. Marvelous.

Thanks guys… ten minutes at most, it’s only wet in wet technique on A4 paper, you have to work fast!

Love the foreboding sky and your exquisite use of tonal values Alan.

Super sketch Alan.

The type of scene which has become rather familiar throughout the Summer, and is probably about to become more familiar still. It would be interesting to know what colours you've used. I shall master the no-fuss watercolour one day! Like the strong horizontals in this one.

Love this Alan

It has that misty and cloudy look, just starting to clear.

You make it look so simple, but it is so clever ; warmer tone to bring the foreground forward; Bluer tones in the sky; darkest tones in the shadowy buildings; variety of shapes in the landscapes to make it interesting; dark tones in the sky to give a sense of foreboding!

This so good for only 10 minutes of your time. I'd love to see you use it as the basis for a larger piece.

I've read all the comments, Alan. I think all I can say is that I agree with them all: superb, apparently simple but exceptionally skilful and perfect use of watercolour by suggesting so much with a few brilliant washes.

Agree with everyone's comments. I do love a menacing sky.

Another simple composition in a Two Rivers sketchbook. I’m working on skies in watercolour at the moment, making sure I do at least one a day! Only 10 minutes of my time and I think worthwhile. They are so often dropped in last, almost as an afterthought, when they actually set the stage for the painting!
