Mixed media sketch

I like the immediacy and confidence of the sketch. Wonderfully unfussy

I love the loose control of thus. If that makes sense! Lovely palette too.

This, even. It may make more sense now!

Aha, our very own Old Master is back! (You'll settle for 'Master', I hope; if not for 'Old'.) This is very effective, and I love that strong black in the mid- and foreground. Looking foward to the article when it appears, do remind us because I for one rather regret buying the magazine in digital form - I'd rather have the physical object in my hands, if only because I sometimes forget to look at it online.

Very effective Alan, I always like your style of pen and wash. I’ve used a few different Hahnemuhle papers and found them good.

A brilliant sketch. Bold lines and great use of colour.

Excellent use of mixed media Alan…..wonderfully loose but descriptive.

This is super, Alan. Love it!

Interesting and very effective. I look forward to your article.

A beauty all round 🙂

Lovely work. I like the way the curve of the road draws you in, and the way you've concentrated most of the colour in the central buildings.

Beautifully controlled line, colour and shadows Alan.

It’s the colours which attract me Alan.

Colour contrast is effective. Great work

A really appealing sketch Alan. The dark greys are so effective. And I love the two figures. Your articles in the magazine are great - very informative and easy to read! - Just looked at the article pertaining to this sketch. - really interesting again.

I love this. I envy the looseness of the sketch and the watercolour washes. Beautifully constructed.

Very good, painted work Alan, is this an actual place?

Thanks guys… yes it is Stephen, a street in London but not sure exactly where, it’s from an old sketch book!

Great! i love this!

I'm currently testing out and writing a test report on a range of eco friendly drawing and painting papers for TA magazine. These are manufactured by Hahnemuhle and their range of papers consist of bamboo, hemp and agave. This quick sketch is on their mixed media paper ‘Carnet de Voyage' 6 x 9.8in. I’ve used ink, watercolour washes, gouache and pastel. This off-white cold-pressed paper has a fairly smooth surface to draw on.
