love this Alan great colour and I like the sail and steam idea very much , that's the beauty of being able to work from imagination its hard but gives absolute freedom

Beautiful atmosphere to your painting, Alan, and the trail of white steam sharpens it all. Great composition.

Another good one Alan, especially like the colours.

Just love this, Alan, very atmospheric with a beautiful range of blues offset by those black boats. Especially like the big sky.

Love it Alan. Great subject and beautifully rendered.

Love this scene and painting Alan, boats an sky exceptional .

Thank you Dennis, Willie, Peter, Jenny, Jim and David, you are all so generous with your comments. It looks so much better in real life, the photo has lost much of the real and true colour.

I like the imagination. Great work.

You're such a prolific painter Alan with a very impressive and extensive catalogue of work, but I think this is one of your very best. The mood, composition, subject matter and colours all gel perfectly.

Thanks also David and Russell, appreciated.

I agree with the other comments, one of your best I think.

Alan you have a remarkable talent of producing such quality and interesting paintings. You combine everything that makes a painting stand out from the run of the mill. Another of your recent works that I would love to own. Is that a speck of emerald green is see in the distance, it adds a beautiful spark of colour, if it is.

That's fantastic Alan, colours are beautiful, wish I could imagine scenes up like this.

Many thanks to Stephen, Fiona and Linda. Fiona dear, well spotted but it is actually a blob of Phthalo Green with white. The Emerald Green that has been in discussion recently on the forum will make an appearance shortly.

Just superb Alan

Oh my, what a beautiful painting, Alan. I love the rich blues in the large sky.

John, Peter and Ellen, much obliged for taking the time to comment.

Lovely painting Alan. I always think that the nineteenth century must have been a wonderful time for artists. Everything had such great style. Steam and sail always does it for me.

Those blues are very beautiful Alan. Such a good composition!

Marvellous work Alan, a great composition and I like the steam!

Everything is right with this. Just great. The white, well, perfectly placed.

What a great imagination you have. The horizon is very striking. And I like the way the steam lights up the sky and water.

Great composition - l love the ' big' sky !

Great composition, Alan, perfect in every respects.

A superb piece of art Alan - LOVE it

Another cracking oil Alan, for me it's the simplicity and contrasting lights and darks that makes it work so well.

Another fantastic painting Alan!

Alan this is marvellous. Really fires the imagination.

Another one for this fan to enjoy.

Playing catch up on the gallery so a bit late with my comment on this, every one else has beaten me to it :) I love the blues you have used and that sky is stunning. One of my very favourites so far I think Alan.

Beautiful and atmospheric.

Oil on prepared MDF board, 20 x 20in. Imaginary scene painted in the studio yesterday, I like the concept of steam and sail so I have combined those two elements.
