Brilliant Alan I won't have a chance. That would also make a great painting

For seven minutes that is just marvellous Alan. I don't stand a chance either.

There is a lot of information there in seven minutes Alan, and you are right, there is no excuse for not coming away from a scene without some sort of reference.
I spent most of the day on Tuesday at a beautiful spot trying to get the scene down in oils, I manged a unimpressive sketch in pastels and an unfinished oil painting, waste of a moment really.
I'd love to be able to get this kind of detail and accuracy down in 20minutes never mind seven.

Thank you all, and Fiona, it's not a race, that was my own personal challenge but with an underlying message.

This is fantastic Alan, and works as a stand alone, never mind the basis for another painting. Sometimes, the quicker you work, the less time you have to over think it and end up producing far more of the sense of a place without getting bogged down with the accuracy of the detail. Really love the fluidity in this work.

A Striking sketch Alan. There is a lot to look at too.

This just shows what can be achieved when you don't fiddle about with a piece of art and get it down on paper as quickly as possible. Great!

Thanks everyone for the comments, a pity no-one wants to take up the challenge, the 'blue' challenge wins hands down...

No, no any challenge Alan ;) In 5min?! It takes me longer to unscrew the paint tube ;) ;) ;) I do appreciate you idea though. Did you fail then? It has took you 7min instead? Well ... I wish I could manage to make at least three of simple lines, within the time you've made this interesting sketch! Respect ;)

This is my failed effort at a 5 minute sketch, it took me 7 minutes but I’ll give it another shot. The object of this exercise was to show how little time we actually need to produce something that could be used as the basis for a painting – yes, with some imagination added I agree. How often do we visit a place and return with nothing on paper, making the excuse ‘We only stopped for an hour so there was no time’. I rest my case. Anyone up for the challenge, but no cheating…
