Thanks to Alan for his encouragement and much appreciated feedback and Support.

Looks very familiar Paul…it is a lovely landscape.

One of your finest Paul love the remoteness of this and agree with your sentiments.

Beautifully painted landscape Paul. Lovely greens and I like the small figure with the dogs.

Lovely scene with some nice detail using a limited colour palette. Very good.

A lovely painting Paul; I really like the palette, the way you have painted the trees, the farm buildings… I could go on! Just great!

This is lovely, Paul, interesting composition, and the figure walking his dogs adds life to it.

Very good Paul and I agree 100% with your sentiments

Another rather splendid atmospheric landscape Paul, perfect composition and a receding palette, which gives it that all-important aerial perspective!

Alan has summed this up pretty well Paul. Wonderful work to examine.

Thank you all for you most kind comments. I like all my fellow artists I work alone with the occasional sharing y work with Alan and a few close friends, it’s so very rewarding and encouraging when a painting has such good feedback. We don’t paint for praise nor except it to happen automatically but when it comes it certainly makes the effort worthwhile and makes any difficulty’s seem trivial. Sorry it’s an essay but I do want you to know how much it means to any of us when fellow artists make such lovely comments.

That is a beautiful painting, Paul. It is full of interest and what great imagination!

One of your best, love it !!

A great sense of the remoteness aided by a limited palette. Very well executed Dixie.

To me it says Yorkshire….it has a lovely atmosphere to it and the figures are just right.

Impressive work Dixie. Definitely Northern England

Those buildings are very well constructed Paul.

Excellent piece of painting Paul.

Thank to all of you for such kind comments .

Excellent painting Paul.

A wonderful piece of work Paul, one of you best. Excellent work.

Love this, rather John Blockley-ish, Paul

I love this Paul. The limited palette is so calming and I like the suggestion of mist on the hilltops.

A beautifully painted scene Paul with such depth, you really do feel a sense of isolation, a very atmospheric piece.

You have portrayed the remoteness of the countryside very well here Paul. It must be a very grim existence in times of bad weather.

Lovely scenery, well painted, Paul

I’d like to thank you all for your kind comments, very encouraging, what a lovely response.

A great watercolour Paul.

It’s beautiful, Paul. And I also like what you said

David and Frederico thank you for your comments.

Great feeling of remoteness on this Paul, lovely picture

Many thanks Trevor for you comment.

Wow, what a wonderful result Paul. When I first saw the beginning of your painting, I thought it would be a success……and it is. Great sense of depth and atmosphere, this is my kind of ideal place to live…..if it were in Scotland! 😉

Thanks Fiona , why go for second best when you could live in North Yorkshire, though Scotland would certainly be my other choice.

Love this, looks serene and peaceful!

Then you Romila , it dose but in winter it can be very different and dangerous too, hard life all year around.

Watercolour on A3 paper that I cropped to me t slight narrow. I used a reference photo of a derelict hill farm and added to it , then developed the scene surrounding it . As an imaginary scene it’s not set anywhere in particular but I hope it reflects the many hill farms throughout Britain. I would like to dedicate it to all those hard working farmers who spend hours in all conditions on these often remote farms

About the Artist
Paul (Dixie) Dean

I have sketched most of my life on and off I became interested in watercolour following a spinal injury whilst in hospital but did not follow it up. My eldest daughter bought me a beautiful wooden box set of half pans about twenty five years ago I dabbled on and off until retirement twelve years…
