Another wonderful snapshot of life in the pond Martin, your newts are excellent.

That is an excellent painting Martin. Takes me back a long way.

This is great, Martin. Well done!

Really like this - composition and colours. We have newts in our garden pond each year but sadly no frogs for a while.

A super composition that captures pond life very well. Good work Martin.

Really good - fabulous pattern making with these newts and tadpoles

Very unusual idea and rather interesting indeed , nice work Martin.

Thanks very much for having a look and commenting Fiona George Mia Jenny Spencer Heather and Alan. I do appreciate it

Wow, what an interesting painting. How did you manage the composition with those effective diagonals? You've captured depth and light beautifully, and one could look at this watercolor for awhile to capture its intricacies. Sooo captivating.

Thanks for your interest Lynne. I used acrylic medium resists for some of the lighter parts with varying degrees of dilution. Normal washes then put down but stay lighter over the resists

The Amphibian Gods are with me this year. Following a sighting of frogs spawning in March, I came across newts in a little pond in May whilst high up on the Yorkshire Wolds Way. It’s only the second time in my life I’ve encountered newts in the wild so I was well chuffed. There were loads of tadpoles too but I’ve no idea if they were newt tadpoles or frogs. Apparently newts eat frog tadpoles! Watercolour on Arches not 12x9
