Lovely to see you back on the gallery Thea! This is great - the boats are fantastic, a good composition and I love your use of colours. Well worth waiting for.

Wow this is fantastic; it really jumped out at me off the page. Incredible strong colours and perfect control of the wet paint. You know I love St Paul's but this beats it into a cocked hat.

Bless you both for your continued encouragement and support. I tried to be brave with the colours and scared myself to death when the paint was wet and so strong. Hopefully, I can get going again now.

Really super! Caught my eye immediately, the colours, composition , no fussing! And boats are one of my favourites, so I'll be waiting for the next.

This is outstanding Thea. It immediately hit me. I love the freedom you are beginning to find. Obviously helped going on Judi Whitton's course. I honestly prefer yours. Excellent.

Nice to see you back on the gallery Thea....I like fishing boat images.....Very good colours and composition....love Steve.

Nice to see you back, Thea, long time no see..... This is brilliant! Fresh and vibrant, with bold colour areas, very striking. Keep them coming.

Thank you all so much for taking the time to comment on my painting. It is fun doing the painting , but having the opportunity to receive critique from such an informed and expert group of artists is the icing on the cake.

This is beautiful, as has been said the colours are very eyecatching. I feel the same at the moment, not been able to get going.

Thank you, Carole, for your nice comments. I feel I am getting my act together now, so hopefully will have something else to post in the near future (fingers crossed!).

What can I say that has not already been said, its smashing, I really love it.

Thank you Karleen - you are very kind.

Hi Thea, Your paintings are very beautiful and seem to me to have evolved towards stronger contrasts of colour and tone still with your wonderful constant expressive quality. It's a lovely gallery. All the best.

You know how i like boats Thea & the colours in this painting are superb, very well done.

Thank you Colleen and Max for your continued support and encouragement. I think I had a bit of a breakthrough moment with this painting and the penny finally dropped as to how I want to paint.

Hello Thea, thank you very much for your comments on my gallery! As I mentioned to Mia, I am new to the site, so I apologize for having inundated everyone with my paintings. I wanted to get the gallery up and going, all at once so did not realize that everyone else was building theirs up incrementally! Your gallery is beautiful, and I'm glad I had the chance to visit it. I painted the Manon just in May this year, when I was with the artist Paul Banning who was teaching a watercolor course in Dedham Hall in Essex, so this painting in particular brings back fond memories, as did your painting of the Butt and Oyster. I love your use of color and all your paintings have a very joyous atmosphere to them.

I like the loose form.

Thea thank you for your comments re my PinMill paintings. You said you had recently painted a similar scene but thiis is the only PinMill I can find on your gallery. Do post the recent but your style is so exciting I wouldn't change it. This is to me is more Charles Reid than Judy Whitton.

Hi Alan, there is another of The Manon at Pin Mill on my gallery. However, it isn't obvious from the title as it is called Boatyard Flotilla and is in my portfolio Thea's Paintings 3. The one I have just done is rubbish really. Put is down to exhaustion as my new studio extension on our house was just completed 10 days ago and I have been up to my ears since then in flatpack Ikea furniture to kit it out. I have lifted ridiculously heavy boxes, with the sterling help of my daughter (husband out of action with a trapped nerve in his shoulder) to the point that my right wrist will barely hold a feather let alone a paintbrush. Anyway, that's my excuse. It could be that I just plain ballsed it up!! I might post it if I can bear to grit my teeth to do so. I have a thing that my paintings have to 'talk' to me and this latest of Pin Mill is keeping very silent. I do think my style owes more to Charles R, although it was Judi Whitton who first fired me up with her use of colour. I am a mishmash of experiences from both their work with a hefty dollop of my own interpretation on top. I think we all have a nod towards the artists who have inspired us and although people always scorn this with the 'be your own person, etc' - all well and fine, but none of us go around with our eyes closed and you can't avoid absorbing what other artists do especially if you are drawn to their work. On the course I went on with Charles Reid, it was actually totally awe inspiring to see him work - the casualness with which he applies the paint, which actually belies the intense concentration he employs for each brush stroke, coupled with the gentle, self-effacing humour of the man made for a heady combination. An experience I will never forget.

About the Artist
Thea Cable

I am a watercolourist first and foremost as I love the qualities of the medium, its riskiness and unpredictability. I started painting about 8 years ago and it has now become an integral part of my life. Hopefully, I will continue to paint into my dotage as I am given to understand that you can…
