And very well done, Thea.....very expressive.

Thank you Ruth for your kind comment. I sweated blood over this portrait and it was poised over the bin on several occasions.

Another endearing portrait. You convey his sunny nature!

What a beautiful series of portraits - I'm sure they will be treasured for years to come. You should be very proud of them Thea, they are so sensitively painted in your very individual style. Well done. I am so glad the bin managed to move out of the way!

Another very natural portrait Thea.

Hi Thea, you are doing very well. I think in watercolour portrait is one of the most difficult subjects to master. Keep painting the skill will come. By the way why did you choose the landscape formate,( there is all that space to the right left ).

Sorry Thea, Correction: all that space to the left.

Thank you very much Seok, Carole, Julia and Olga for the very nice and helpful comments. your input is much appreciated. Olga, I see from your gallery that you appear to have just started watercolour painting. I have learned over the few years I have been painting in watercolour that white paper is the most valuable asset you have. I love white paper and rarely fill a sheet up with colour. In this particular portrait I started with the paper in landscape format intending to crop it when I had finished it. Unusually for me, I did add a bit of background to one side of the head and having done that I decided that I liked all the surrounding white paper, so left it in the format that it was. If I ever framed it I might crop the sides slightly, but I feel the wide angled look suits the portrait. Anyway, thank you for asking such an interesting question.

thea ,what beautiful portraits, expressions captured for years to come, you have done so well.

This is my favourite one of the four but they are all charming. Isn't it frustrating to try and capture the "essence" of someone you know well? And those who don't paint often say to me "How relaxing it must be to paint" - !!! However, the satisfaction when it is completed makes it worth it.

Your portfolio is wonderful. You are obviously very comfortable with your medium.

Ive been looking through your portraits Thea and think they are all so good. I especially like this one, so bright and such a happy portrait

Thank you Julie for such a nice comment. This was one of my first attempts, so I am pleased if you like it.

Thea Cable

I am a watercolourist first and foremost as I love the qualities of the medium, its riskiness and unpredictability. I started painting about 8 years ago and it has now become an integral part of my life. Hopefully, I will continue to paint into my dotage as I am given to understand that you can…
