Gorgeous!!! wonderful gallery Thea!

What a superb portrait - he looks so happy and full of life; you're really good at these too!

What a darling Thea! So well depicted with your unique and beautiful style!

So cute. Thea your colours are wonderful.

Thea this is lovely. What a gorgeous, happy little chappie.

Wow - just lovely! I couldn't help but smile when I looked at this painting - what a beautiful face and I'm sure I can hear him laughing! You are quite brilliant at these portraits!

You're good at these Thea, the skin tones are excellent.

Gorgeous portrait, love that blue and your wonderful style... It is very well done..

Thank you all very much for your comments. I did actually struggle a bit with this portrait as I find ones that are complete face on more difficult than three quarter face ones. You don't get that angle of the head and attitude to describe what is going on with the face on ones, which makes it harder to get a rounded shape and get the features to come forward. I am learning all the time and, as always, encouraged by all your comments and feedback.

Thea, your portraits are soo delightful. The spontaneity is jumping out of the paper!!! Excellent!

This is gorgeous Thea, what a lovely and handsome boy! beautiful portrait

This is lovely, great skin tones.

Thank you very much Mia, Petra and Lorraine for your lovely comments. It does give one a boost when you get such nice feedback.

This is just brilliant, Thea. I hope you can make prints of all the portraits in your wonderful gallery. I can imagine there are a number of your relatives who will each want a full set.

Thea, this is really, really gorgeous! I live little Noah's expression, and I love the way you so effortlessly lay your colors and allow them to blend. It really sparkles!

Wonderful Thea , I really think this is one of your best.

Wonderful smile and you have captured such character.

I think this is gorgeous so spontaneous & what a light hand you have with watercolour.Really well done.

So lovely. What I like is that your babies and children portraits are exactly that as I know how hard it is do paint children without ageing them. This one is really cute and your style is very unique.

Well - I feel very lucky to have such lovely comments about this painting. Although they may possibly look like it, I can't do these portraits just like that. I am still very much a beginner at all painting, and particularly portraits, and over this one I fretted about it, changed bits, had to add bits, re-think other sections over a period of three days. I wish I could just sit down and do them from start to finish without all the angst - perhaps that's the pot of goldl at the end of the rainbow. However, when you get such positive feedback it does make you think that you might at least be on the right road even if you have a long way to go to actually arrive!

Thank you, Kirstie. I use mostly W & N Artists, but also Holbein, Daniel Smith (just a couple) and I have just sent off to USA for some by American Journey - looking forward to trying some of the colours in that range. I am a bit of a colour junkie and would like own a tube of everything! However, I have used artist quality from day one of learning and decent brushes as I felt that watercolour was hard enough without having my paints and equipment working against me. They are more expensive than student ranges, but when you think of the time and effort that you put into a painting, use the best because- like the advert on telly says 'because you're worth it'!

Just found this Thea, don't know how I missed it. You say you suffer a lot of angst when painting portraits, well it doesn't show. You make it look as though it comes quite naturally to you, so effortlessly, and this is no exception. A stunning portrait of a lovely happy chappy.

Thank you Val for your very kind comments. It is actually all done with smoke and mirrors LOL!! I am really hoping for the day when I sit down at my easel and the painting just appears easily and magically (like it does in all those demos on DVD's), but I fear I will be in my dotage by the time I achieve that goal. One can dream though...

another lovely portrait thea, you catch the colours just right [ and thanks again for your comments on my paintings ]

Wonderful picture Thea. i like this one, very sweet and happy.

I just found this of yours Thea, what a little bundle of joy you have captured here in this gorgeous watercolour of your grandson as a baby with one of those super cute hats with ears!

About the Artist
Thea Cable

I am a watercolourist first and foremost as I love the qualities of the medium, its riskiness and unpredictability. I started painting about 8 years ago and it has now become an integral part of my life. Hopefully, I will continue to paint into my dotage as I am given to understand that you can…
