Wonderful work Thea, the washes and pen outlines make it so very you and excellent for that, love the flying mud as well!

I like it. It will go very well with your other horse racing paintings.

I love the feeling of the race. The competition between the two of them in that the smaller horse and red jockey seems to be just slightly looking at the more powerful looking green jockey who's battling through and from the determined look of him will win!

I love it !! I like the looseness, the colours, the action and particularly the element of competition between the two. Lovely work.

This is really excellent Thea! You have captured so well the movement and excitement.

I agree with above, great energy about this.

Thank you very much Ros, Pat, Louise, Tony, Christine and Carole for such nice comments. Isn't it funny how you can be so unsatisfied with a painting just after you have finished it and then go back a month or so later and find that you have a completely different view of it? Why is that, I wonder?

Full of movement, energy and some really nice squiggly pen marks!

Thank you very much, Fiona - I like wobbly lines (mainly because they hide my less than expert drawing skills!).

Lovely painting Thea

Smashing work Thea and well done with this awkward subject matter.

Thank you very much Glennis, Gudrun and Derek - lovely comments and much appreciated.

You have captured the race very well the colours are great.

I love this Thea, nothing wrong with your drawing skills as far as I can see. The white paper with that nice sky shape top left set it off a treat. And the washes are great.

Discussing tactics strength of subject yet done so lightly, sorry that I missed it before but glad I found it

After being away for a few days, I have to catch up with the latest postings, sorry for that Thea. So I picked this one out to say: Stunning. You caught the movement with such a spontaneity, it is full of action! I think the spattering is the finishing touch: wonderful!

A few months ago, I had a go at a pen and wash of horses racing. I wasn't sure it had worked out, so I stuck in my bottom drawer and forgot about it. Having a tidy I came across it and found that it had grown on me (story of my life I'm afraid!) and I now rather like it. I found the pen hard to balance with the washes and I think it turned out more like a painting but then that happens all the time with me. Done of Fabriano Artistico Extra White.

I am a watercolourist first and foremost as I love the qualities of the medium, its riskiness and unpredictability. I started painting about 8 years ago and it has now become an integral part of my life. Hopefully, I will continue to paint into my dotage as I am given to understand that you can…
